I find it amusing that in FFXII when a party member falls asleep you can walk off and leave them...so, I wrote a short drabble about it. Hope you enjoy!
Sleep
Poking the teenager on the shoulder, Balthier let out a long sigh. "Again, he's sleeping again! You'd think by the fifth time getting put to sleep it would teach him to equip an item that blocks sleep spells."
Laughing, Penelo said, "But this is Vaan we're talking about. He doesn't learn."
Smiling conspirationally, Balthier said, "Well then, would you like to teach him a lesson?"
"You're not going to shoot him, are you?" asked Penelo worriedly as she eyed Balthier's gun. Sure, she wanted Vaan to learn the importance of wearing the appropriate equipment but that didn't mean she wanted him to come to bodily harm.
Chuckling, Balthier said, "Oh no, nothing that mean. Just come with me."
"Where are we going?" asked Penelo as she followed the sky pirate as he moved away from her sleeping friend.
"We still need to catch up the others on this sandsea. We shall continue doing just that."
"We're just going to leave him?" asked Penelo, her eyes going wide.
"Well, why not?" asked Balthier. "It's not like we have a leash connecting us to him. He can sleep. But we're continuing on."
"Well, ok," said Penelo after hesitating for only a second. "He should be awake in a few minutes anyways."
"Precisely why we are leaving," repeated Balthier as he began walking off, Penelo on his heels.
A couple of minutes later Vaan yawned and opened his eyes. It only took him a few seconds to see his comrades walking off in the distance. "Hey!" he yelled as he took off running. "What's the big idea leaving me like that?"
"You were sleeping so peacefully, it would have been a shame to wake you," answered Balthier bluntly once the teenager had caught up to them.
Crossing his arms, Vaan said, "I would have expected that from you Balthier. But Penelo! Why would you leave me?"
"Vaan, just equip something that blocks sleep attacks already. You don't see me and Balthier falling asleep every ten minutes and that's because we put on the appropriate item," said Penelo.
"But I don't want to," mumbled Vaan. "I like my bangle."
Before the other two had time to respond, another wave of Urutan-Yensa were upon them. Efficiently dispatching them, Balthier started reloading his gun. He turned around at the sound of a loud groan.
Penelo had her hands on her hips as she glared at the once again sleeping Vaan.
Chucking, Balthier said, "Shall we?"
This time there was no argument from Penelo. Together the two of them set off with the hopes of catching up to the others who were somewhere in front of them. Perhaps next time Vaan would listen to them.
