DECEMBER 31, 2024: PRESENT DAY
The soda can fizzed as it opened, a familiar sound that brought memories of picnics with friends and family. As he drank, he tried to recall a time before, when the only things he had to worry about were his job, and what he was going to eat for dinner. Now, all he had to worry about was ammunition, keeping his weapons in working order, finding medical supplies, and if time permitted, dinner.
Today was his last day of living in this hell, though.
Leonard Teach was never a religious man, but he found himself looking forwards to whatever afterlife he had earned as he touched the barrel of a .357 Magnum Revolver to the side of his head.
"Happy New Year," He whispered to himself.
DECEMBER 31, 2023: ONE YEAR AGO
Leonard Teach raised his .357 Magnum Revolver, lining up the barrel with the man's forehead, while his 'pet' wolf, Linda, snarled at the other occupants of the house, who cowered in the corner.
"P-Please, Teach. Just gimme one more chance, I promise I'll-"
BANG!
He was cut off by a single gunshot, sending a bullet through his skull and killing him instantly. As they caught sight of what was previously on the inside of the man's head splattered across the wall, they tried to cram themselves even further into the corner, and one squeaked in terror. Leonard whistled, a signal that told Linda to follow. Without hesitating, Linda was by his side. Leonard opened the door, an old wooden door that was barely attached to the hinges. As he stepped outside into the snow, he stopped, turning to those that remained.
"Happy New Year," He said, before closing the sorry excuse for a door behind him.
