The Walking Dead: A Fanfic from Lori's Perspective
Lori did not know what to think as she slept that night. Shane was dead and his blood was on both Rick's and Carl's hands. She shuddered knowing that Shane the man who had been her and Rick's friend since high school and possibly the father of the child she was carrying was dead and could not cause harm to her family anymore. On the one hand she was relieved, but on the other Lori could not help but recall the way her body melted into his that first night of their ill- fated affair. Lori closed her eyes tightly knowing that her irresponsibility had caused the mess she was in but at the time she thought Rick was dead and Shane's caress was what made the grief more tolerable. Shane had never kept his feelings a secret. Even in high school he had flirted with her behind Rick's back and Lori had enjoyed every minute of it. Shane was a bad boy even then and Lori was wildly attracted to him although she knew he was no good. That is why she chose Rick Grimes. Rick was smart, handsome, and an all around good guy. Shane was constantly chasing skirts, barely passing any of his classes and had no foreseeable goals. Rick's desire to be a cop is what led Shane to pursue it. Lori mused it was like whatever Rick desired, Shane desired as well and that included everything from careers to wives.
Lori thought of Rick whose disposition earlier had scared her. When he said this was not a democracy anymore, her blood ran cold. It was like the ghost of Shane had jumped inside of her gentle, kind husband and would not let go. Lori knew that his being in charge was best for the group, but she also felt the tide was turning against Rick. After all he had kept very important information to himself in regards to the "virus" or whatever it was that had destroyed nearly all of mankind. The virus was airborne so they were all walking targets. How long was it until they all turned she wondered?
Carl's attitude and behavior was starting to scare Lori as well. Her son was becoming quite the assassin and it scared her. Lori knew the world as she once knew it was over, but Carl was still her little boy despite his growing animosity towards her. Lori did not know how much Carl knew about her and Shane but suspected he knew enough. Plus seeing Sophia emerge from that barn a walker was the straw that broke the camel 's back for the group as a whole. So much hope had been lost when Sophia emerged from that barn. Now the only thing that mattered was survival and giving birth to this baby whose paternity was still in question and would forever remain in question.
Lori did know one thing. She did not know what the future held for her family but Lori was determined to use whatever time she had left to make up for her misdeeds. With a newfound determination, Lori fell asleep knowing that tomorrow would be the beginning of a new chapter for her fractured family, one that did not include the unwanted presence of Shane Walsh.
