Summary: Just a small drabble in Linus's POV for all the Linus fans out there. ;-)
Linus
The room was full of Rueben's cigar smoke and the sound of clinking brandy glasses. A low murmur of talking -- no, muttering, sorry -- was a little like music. The sound of shuffling cards hit the ceiling and the muttering stopped, the attention given to the cards. And then someone spoke up.
"Gotta be smoother than that, idiot." It was one of the Malloy twins. Maybe it was Turk, maybe it was Virgil. Nobody could tell anymore and frankly, no one cared.
"Well maybe you should shuffle, moron."
I sighed and leaned back in my chair, attempting to look casual -- and failing. I never could get anything "casual" done in my entire life. I was gawky, clumsy…shall I go on? I can't be smooth. I have no common sense whatsoever -- at least, the guys make me feel that way -- and I feel young and uneducated in this side of the business. Every time we did a job I was always the one picked on. I mean, come on, they could at least pick on Livingston! The guy's a regular Bill Gates, for Christ's sake. Why do they pick on me?
Rusty attempted explaining it to me before, during the Bellagio heist. He said that the others knew that I was someday going to become one the greatest pickpockets on the face of the planet.
Liar.
Is it me? Do I have no self-confidence at all? I doubt it. I feel like an idiot every time I step into a room, and everyone stops talking and stares at me. Then I sit down and everyone starts talking again, but there's tension in the air and there probably wasn't any tension there before.
I'm rambling, aren't I?
"Uh, Linus?" Rusty's voice made me look up. "It's your turn. Call or raise?"
"What's the bet?"
"One hundred dollars," said Rueben before Rusty could say something. "You gonna make a bet or what?"
I threw in one hundred and fifty dollars worth in chips and sat back in my chair again. I had a feeling that it was going to be a long night.
