Summary : If only Masaoka had been the one running after Makishima and Yuki, things would have turned out very differently.
Ginoza's harsh words replayed in her head again, again and again, so loudly that it actually hurt.
"If Kougami ends up dying, it's all because of your supervision."
She could felt cold sweat running down her cheeks. There was so much blood everywhere... except his face. His complexion was so pale, too pale for such a vigorous, determined man she had come to respect.
"How does it feel to know that someone loses his life because of you?"
Her heart was pounding so loudly she could hear it in her ears.
...You can't die here, Kougami-san. I won't allow it!
Her conscience slapped her out of shocked stupor and forced her into action.
She ran to his side and knelt down. The concrete floor was unforgivingly cold under her knees. Quickly scanning his wounds, she bit her lips nervously. Her heart plummeted at their severity. Never before had she seem him so helpless, so lifeless.
"Missy, can you perform first aid?" Masaoka's fatherly voice was her only source of comfort now.
Rolling up her sleeves, she replied grimly. "I'll try my best."
It was her fault. All of this was her fault. The least she could do was to save his life before he slipped away from her forever.
Opening the first aid box the drone had provided, she said softly, "Hang on, Kougami-san. Stay with us."
"..Ughhh."
Her eyes widened as she noticed his returning consciousness. It seemed just opening his eyes had took what little energy he had left.
"Kougami-san!"
"...There was...another man… He took your fr… friend."
A cold wave washed over her. She was so focused on him she had for a moment forgotten why they had come here in the first place.
Her face paled several shades. "..Yuki!"
"I'll go after them! Missy, take care of Kou!"
Before Akane could formulate a reply, Masaoka ran off with such agility that would shame most men half his age.
