Carol huffed with effort as she totted Judith around the prison, her back no longer used to the strain of carrying a baby. I miss you so much, Sophia, she thought. You were the center of my world, and now you're gone, and I have nothing. No more family. No more loved ones. Well... Her thoughts trailed off as the short haired woman glanced at Daryl. Maybe I'm not completely alone…

She studied him as she sat down on her bunk with Judith for her bottle time. He was in the main area of their cell block, skinning the rabbits he had caught earlier that morning. Her gaze captured his every move as the thickly corded muscles in his arms worked in harmony to pull the fur off the rabbits. She studied his face, half concealed by the shadows and the tilt of his head, as he worked. Although you wouldn't think it when you first met him, Daryl Dixon had a kind face. Calculating but not cold eyes, the color of the ocean on a sunny day. Hair just a bit too long that seemed to go in every direction, but somehow fit in with his look. A strong jawline that held authority almost unknowingly. And those lips… Carol felt the blush rise in her cheeks like she was a teenager all over again, but she refused to be cowed.

She was a grown ass woman, if she wanted to admire a man she found attractive she had every right to. That's what she told herself as the blush continued to stain her cheeks red.

And it wasn't as if he was only attractive in looks either. No, he was caring, and loyal, and put others before himself in danger. And I love him, she realized with a jolt. I fell in love with him somewhere between Sophia getting lost and him finding me.

He was all she had left in this world. Her rock, her anchor, so to speak. Something for her to hold on to, to keep her sane in the days of insanity that never seemed to end.

Judith chose that moment to gurgle, and then promptly regurgitate her lunch all over Carol.

As she walked away, Daryl's eyes flicked up to watch her retreat. He had felt her studying him, and damn if he didn't get a twist in his stomach like the first time a girl put her lips against his.

That woman… He sat contemplatively as he finished skinning the dinner for tonight. I'd do anything for her.

And he honestly would. He'd follow her to the ends of the Earth if that's where she wanted to go. Do anything to see that quiet smile light up her face.

Daryl had never been one for the blonde haired, big chested ladies. That was Merle. No, he considered himself a man with more exotic tastes. And Carol certainly didn't lack exoticism. Short, tufty grey hair that didn't make her look old. Deep, cerulean eyes that you could see the world turning in. And a spitfire personality to match. She was no longer the scared rabbit running she used to be.

Nah, Daryl thought to himself, she's not afraid anymore. She'll look anyone dead in the eyes and speak her mind. And damn, is that ever a turn on. He chuckled to himself as he got up, walking away to find the woman he loved more than anything, the one person he had left in this world to count on. Carol.
