Darkness cripples the edges,

and so he leans in like he knows,

and she falls into the embrace easily enough.

'I love you,' he whispers,

and its like the song of a rooster,

harsh but real and deathly beautiful.

She presses closer,

a part of her lost in this moment,

smitten with the harshness of their relationship

that wasn't perfect or admirable;

it just was.
