Antauri flicked his wrist and stole the opposing rook. Gibson leaned forward in his chair and examined the board closely, humming in concentration. Antauri sat back and watched Gibson's mind twist, turn, and calculate. He could almost see the numbers and equations flash across his black eyes. A play was decided by the blue simian and with two jumps, Gibson captured Antauri's final bishop. The scientist sat back and smiles victoriously.
"Checkmate." Gibson said triumphantly.
Antauri raised a brow and surveyed the board. "Impressive. Soon you will be able to defeat me in one move."
Gibson chuckled. "I don't believe so, not while I am going against your mind anyway."
Antauri smiled flirtatiously. "Oh, you flatter me."
"Naturally." Gibson reset the board and held a competitive spark in his eye. "Shall we play again?"
Antauri leaned forward and spun the board, claiming the opposite color. "Of course." Antauri moved his first pawn. "If you win, you will pay for dinner."
Gibson laughed. "That is hardly fair!"
"I believe it's fair." Antauri smiled playfully and waited for Gibson's move.
Gibson could only smile in return and lifted his hand to make his first move, Antauri quickly moving to make his second move. They quickly moved back one after another, pieces being jumped and captured. They became lost. Their eyes barely glancing at the board before becoming locked with each other's. A swirling ring of blue and black. Finally, Gibson made his last move.
"I lose." He spoke softly as he holds Antauri's queen between his fingers.
Antauri slightly tilted his head to the side. "Lose? The game?" The second-in-command looked almost smug. "Are you upset that you will have to pay?"
Gibson slowly shook his head and smiled warmly, resting his chin on his palm and looking at Antauri will a small twinkle in his eyes.
"I told myself that I would never lose to the abstract idea of love. That science would be the only thing I would be attracted to." He carefully took Antauri's hand and softly pressed his lips against the metallic surface. He slowly pulled away to look into confused and flustered blue eyes.
"I lost."
A/N: I don't play chess...can you tell? :'D I'm not sure if I have to explain why Gibson lost...I hope not ^^; I know people think that Antauri always wins against Gibson based on when they play chess in "Ape New World," but if you look closely, Gibson has more pieces, he appears to be winning. I may be wrong, but don't count Gibson out of the equation just yet, he could stand a chance against Antauri ;D
