A/N: Hey all! This is a Maiko fanfic! If you don't like it, then I can't do anything about it! Anyway, this fanfic doesn't really have "setting" or "time", so it's merely something I did for the twosome! I HEART MAIKO! It's just a oneshot, though.

Mai was strolling lazily around the city of "you-don't-even-care" when she spotted him in front of the fountain. Him. The Banished Prince of the Fire Nation. Zuko.

Slowly, she approached him.

He glanced behind and spotted her but gave no other sign of indication of her presence.

Nonetheless, she walked right by him and stared at the dark waters.

"Hmm. Not much too see," she commented with the same bored tone that she was known for.

Zuko remained silent, and simply dug his hands into his pockets.

"The moon's not out tonight," she said, attempting a stab at conversation. Zuko looked up. "Uh-huh," he said, "but the stars are there."

"Yeah. The stars." With that, Mai too looked up. Zuko turned and saw her face illuminated by the glow of the stars.

"Incandescent," he murmured. Mai apparently didn't hear him.

"Not much for us to see anything," she said again.

Zuko blurted out, "See anything except – " but he stopped and looked away. Why am I like this? he thought furiously. He felt Mai edge nearer to him.

"It doesn't make much of an impression on the water," she observed, disregarding his sudden statement. "I would have been nice if the moon was reflected."

"Why?"

Mai shrugged. "Just is." She looked into the water and could make out the silhouette of the two of them. Looks good together, she thought and smiled inwardly. Now, she felt him move closer.

"A moon present would have been nice," he agreed, and inside he longed to see Mai's face away from the shadows once more.

"Or it doesn't need to be," Mai said, looking deeply at Zuko. He stared, with a hint of confusion. "We don't need the moon."

She slowly moved in closer, obscuring Zuko's view of the dim fountain. All he could see was the beauty of Mai. He closed his eyes and forgot all about the moon, the stars, and everything else.
