Disclaimer: I do not own Hyakki Yakoushou. Ima Ichiko does.
Author's Note: Hyakki Yakoushou is a supernatural manga. The title has been translated as 'Nighttime Procession of a Hundred Demons' or 'Tales of a Hundred Ghosts Traveling by Night.' Scanlations are floating somewhere on the web. xxxHolic fans might like it, in the sense that HY's protagonist Ritsu can 'see', like Watanuki (Ritsu, predictably, is not at all thrilled.^_^)
Summary: Iijma Kagyuu's grandchildren can see strange things.

There were two of them. Again.
Tsukasa steadfastly kept her gaze on her book. I am just tired. Cicadas sang in the garden beyond the wide open shoji near the porch; a furin tinkled in a faint breeze. It's been a long few months trying to get Ritsu up to speed; he really needs to pass the next university entrance exams. Her cousin was, at the moment, neglecting his practice tests in favor of eating chilled watermelon. It's this creepy house and Grandfather's reputation that's getting to me.
In the corner of her eye, she could see two sparrows dressed in miniature ancient Japanese court dress arguing over a watermelon slice. Nothing to see, really. The black one began gesturing in her direction and was saying something to his white counterpart about "grilled unagi and sake for hime-sama this evening." No, no supernatural creatures here. The white one was nodding his agreement with enthusiasm.
Across the low table, Ritsu was wearing one of his annoying expressions. This one was the "you're going to admit to seeing strange things sooner or later" face. Utterly insufferable. She didn't want to admit it, but weird things had been happening with greater frequency ever since he had somehow helped her remove the scar on her back. It was hard to feel gratitude, however, with the knowing gleam of his eyes saying 'this is your heritage and you can't escape it so there's no use trying.' The sparrows were now heckling over which of them would bring the alcohol or the fresh eels.
I hate Iijima genes.
