Kate and Jim are having a father daughter time in his apartment.
Jim says, "Katie, remember when you were 12 yrs old and you had a crush on that actor. What was his name?! Well, back then you said you would marry him."
Kate laughs. "Yeah Dad I recall that, but I remember saying that about a lot of handsome actors growing up"
"Well, your mother and I talked about that sometimes, and we dreamed about our little girl's wedding quite often back then. The point is, when we talked your mother said that she'd love to give you the choice to use something that was so special to her. Wait here just a second."
Jim goes into the room and comes back with a vintage box and handles it to Kate. "As I was saying, it's for you to keep, you decide if you wanna wear it or not, but I know your mother would love for you to have the choice."
As Kate opens the box she starts to unfold the dress, it's an all white gown with lace on the upper part and the skirt on satin that falls so beautifully, it's so simple but so sophisticated at the same time. It reminds her of Johanna, how she was such an elegant person. Kate hugged her dad and thanked him for those memories." Should I try it on right now?!"
"Go ahead if you want it, but Kate, you don't really have to wear if you don't like it. I'm not even sure it fits you."
She put the dress on and as she saw herself in the mirror she could picture all those spring cleanings where she tried the dress, too big for a 5 year old, her mother used to say. Tears came floating on her face, the dress was beautiful, was perfect even, and most importantly, she could feel her mother there with her as she looked in the mirror.
