Prologue:
Akika was on guard. Her family was sleeping behind the bush behind her. She looked around for the approach of another creature. Badgers, adn foxes would be a threat to the kits but the real threat was from other cats. Especially from the cats of the pine forest. Her family was part of the cats of the oak forest. The other cats (of the river, and the moor) wouldn't hesitate to try to seize their land. It was a time of war. Nowyou couldn't even trust the other cats in your own area of land. There had been a time when the cats of the oak forest had trusted each other but, no more.
Akika saw a shadow slink to a bush. She pricked her ears and heard the rustling of more cats as they approached her familys camp. She opened her mouth and the stench of more cats of the oak forest hit her scent glands. She realized that cats of her own forest were about to attack her familys camp. She yowled her alarm to her family. "Mother, Father, Jords, intruders!"
Her father and brother, Jords, shot out of the bush and were at her side in an instant. Her father raised his head and yowled "Brang Family intruders come to me!" At once the rest of her family shot out from the other bushes nearby and ran to her father. Her cousin Tirana ran to her side.
"I always said you had the best eyes in the family" she said, "and now I was proven right."
Akika looked down into the valley below them and saw that the whole Derag Family had gathered for an attack against her family. Her father stepped forward and said "Friends of the pine forest, we will give you a chance to leave our territory in peace. You have your own hunting ground and you have no need of ours."
Derag, the leader of the attacking family, stepped forward and said "you are wrong Brang, we may have our own hunting ground but our family grows larger quickly and we need more prey if we are to survive. Now we will give you a chance to leave this territory before we attack."
Akika's father stepped forward and yowled "We will never surrender!"
"Very well," Derag meowed,"Derag Family attack!"
The families lept at one another. A silver tabby she-cat pounced on Tirana and raked her claws down her back. Tirana screeched and tried to get a hold on the tabby but Akika was faster. She launched herself onto the silver cats and rolled he onto her back. Tirana ran over to help and bit the tabby in the shoulder. The silver cat screeched in pain, ripped herself free, and ran.
Akika looked around and saw that her family was outnumbered by about 5 to 1. She hadn't realized that the Derag family was so large.
She heard a yowl behind her and turned to see a large dark tom pinning Tirana to the ground. She lept at the tom but was knocked over by tortoiseshell who raked her claws down her side, but Akika barley noticed the pain. She flung the cat off her and was just in time to see the tom lunge and sink his teeth into Tirana's neck.
