After three days in the jungle, everyone was getting grumpy.

They were supposed to be trying to find an enemy base, but it seemed like they were lost. Ghost said he knew where he was going, but they weren't so sure.

Roach didn't like the jungle. Too many bugs, he thought as they trudged their way through the vegetation. A leaf smacked into his face, and he angrily batted it away.

"Having fun up the front there, Roach?" called Royce, who was bringing up the rear.

"Yeah. Having a blast." he lamented back. A bug buzzed in front of him, and he swatted it away. The crimson sun was slowly sinking on the horizon, even though they couldn't see it through the trees, they could see the orange clouds scattered in the sky.

"Ok, we'll make camp here," Ghost said as they wandered into a clearing. "Remember, no fire." yes Ghost. We know, Roach thought as he found a spot. You told us that yesterday, and the day before that. You really don't need to remind us.

After they had set up their bush tents, Roach had decided to go looking for food. Because he was hungry. And you shouldn't travel on an empty stomach-even though they had rations. But that barely counts as real food anyway.

He slipped away into the undergrowth, careful not to stray too far from the clearing. He soon saw a cluster of green berries clinging to a tree, which looked delicious…

He went up to it, and picked about four, and put them in his mouth and chewed them. They were kind of sweet, but chewy.

But a few seconds after he had swallowed them, it felt like his stomach was churning. Like he had just eaten hot soup, then jumped up and down to make himself sick. Ew. His stomach felt weird.

Then, he collapsed to the ground, barely able to breathe. His vision was hazy, and in the distance he could hear someone calling his name. And the world faded to darkness…

Where was he? Was he lost, or captured?

Ghost worried over Roach, as he hadn't told anyone where he was going. Or if he had even left himself.

"Roach!" he called out. "Where are you!?" the others went in twos and spread out, looking for their lost Bug. When he came across a space with fewer trees and undergrowth, he found who he was looking for.

Roach was right under a cluster of green berries that clung to a tree, his body convulsing.

"Roach!" Ghost bent down and rolled him over to his side, and saw his mouth was foaming slightly and a trickle of blood came from his mouth. His eyes open, but blank.

"Roach…" Ghost whispered to him. "Please wake up…"

"Ghost! Where's….oh…no" Blade came thrashing through the vegetation and knelt by his side.

"Wait!" was all she said. She rummaged around in her pockets, and found a small bottle of something clear. She tipped it into Roach's open mouth, and after a few moments, his body stopped convulsing. Roach started to make choking sounds, then he gasped for air.

"Roach!" Ghost called. He rested Roach's head in his lap, and checked his breathing was okay.

"Ow…" Roach moaned. "My stomach hurts…"

"Of course it does, you just ate cycad berries, are you daft!?" Ghost scolded him.

"I…didn't know…what's cycad?"

"An extremely poisonous berry, common around these parts." Blade explained. "You're lucky you're alive."

"…Oh.." was all Roach said. He was shy around Blade.

"Come on, let's get you back. You need to rest."

They lifted him up and the two supported him under his arms and led him back to camp. The others were back, after hearing the commotion. Huddled around the middle, they looked up when they saw Ghost and Blade carrying a half-conscious Roach into the clearing. They placed him onto a clean patch of ground and sat him up against a small tree.

"Ow…" he moaned. Blade smiled at him, and strutted off to inform the others of what had happened. Once Blade had gone, Ghost bent down and murmured to Roach.

"That's your own fault for eating those berries with ought being sure first." Ghost rested his forehead on Roach's. "Now get some rest bug." He stood up and walked to the others, anxiously waiting to tell them if he was okay.

Roach closed his eyes, hoping sleep would come.
