There were five things Dean's father taught him to do every time they got to a new hotel or house. First he was to go through the place with the EMF they had borrowed from Caleb. Second Dean went through the house, salting every window and every door. Next Dean would check at the local library for any deaths or accidents at or near the place they were staying. Next Dean would place his gun under his pillow, the shotgun by the door and a silver knife in the night table beside his bed. Last, and most importantly, he was to make sure that Sam was always safe.
