There wasn't anything wrong with Zatanna, Dick found her well enough. She was beautiful, talented, good in the sack, but the problem he had with her was that she and he had nothing in common. Besides the super-hero thing they shared practically nothing.

She lost her parents, which was the one thing they could bond over, but everything else... she was protected by her father and he ran out and became a super hero (sidekick), she went shopping, and goofed off while he trained for hours when he wasn't trying to keep his grades up, she believed in /magic/ real or just the fact that good things could happen when he was a realist.

Good things don't happen, what could go wrong, would go wrong, and they were DAMN lucky when it didn't. He didn't want to say he was pessimistic, but compared to her he was. He liked the term Realist.

Who he really could relate to was Artemis. More-so then he liked to lead on to anyone. Even himself. Artemis was by all accounts Wally's, he'd learned to accept that. When they were younger on one of their missions they'd sat down and talked about it, and Dick told the other to go ahead. He didn't mind, but at that point he was 13.

Now, he was 18. He knew what he wanted, even if his brain was mostly ruled by his hormones. The girl's long blonde hair, thick lips, and almond eyes were something that were getting increasingly hard to resist. Even knowing that they belonged to his best friend.

Whom he loved and hated all the same.

Loved because the guy was his best friend. They'd been buddies for so long, they had so much history and he was the greatest friend someone could call for.

He hated him because he'd taken all of the life out of the center of his desire. Near forced her to give up her life as a Hero, he practically stole her from him (at least that's how Dick saw it as he was too young to realize he'd miss her once his chance was gone), he takes the woman for granted, and he knows what Wally isn't /true/ to her. Knows what goes on during his 'study' sessions with Linda. He'd even /bragged/ to Dick about it, and though he acted impressed he was angry and bitter.

Wally seemed to have it all, without even trying. Having everyone, and everything fall to his will. And Dick couldn't even have the ONE thing he wanted.

Artemis.
