B's thoughts on L, shortly before he leaves Wammy's House.
L. A single letter. How could a single letter cause this? This feeling… Unworthy. L is unworthy, he does not deserve this, he does not deserve these feelings, yet still I feel them for him. And these people, these pathetic people who claim they want to 'help' me and 'teach' me, they want to bring me down to his level. They want to take away my humanity, to turn me into a single letter, B.
They call me 'Backup,' they say I am only L's 'Backup.' I will show them that I am more than that, I will become more than that which I am 'Backup' for. I will surpass L, and then, I will become L. And when he sees that his 'Backup' has surpassed him, when he knows that he is no longer the best, when I can make him tremble in fear of what I've become, then I will kill him.
After all, 'B' is for 'best.'
