A bushy browed man with blond hair climbs a ladder leading to the attic of his house.
"It's about time that I cleaned out this dirty place," he announced. "England!" calls a French voice echoing through the halls. "What is it now France?" England asks, clearly irritated.
"Why did you take down those rose curtain I put up last week? They were simply gorgeous, no?"
"No"
"Oh come on England! Can't I just put one up? It wouldn't hurt to have a little color in a place like this!"
"I said no! And get out of my house! How did you get in here anyway?"
"If you want to find out, join me in the bedroom tonight," England's face turned a sickly shade of green and he slammed the attic door shut.
Despite his efforts, England could still hear France's voice. "What happened Arthur? You used to be so much nicer! Why did you stop?" his voice drifted off. Footsteps were heard slowly fading away. Leaving England to himself in the dark.
"He's right though," thought England, "what happened? I was so happy with them before. American, Canada, and France, what happened? Was it when they left? No… then when? And why? And how? Why did they all leave?" he closed his eyes, and Arthur, fell asleep.
A warm breeze washes over his face. Arthur's eyelids flutter open. The sky above his head is a beautiful color of blue, few clouds dotted across. He heard a soft whimpering coming from under a tree, in the center of the meadow. Arthur gets to his feet, and walks over to the tree. The whimpering slowly stops. Under the tree is a little boy, blond hair brighter then gold, blue eyes prettier then the sky.
"What are you looking at?" asks the boy promptly.
"A lost little boy, hiding under a tree."
"I'm not lost… I just don't know where to go."
"Do you have a mom or a dad?"
"No"
"What's your name?"
"Alfred."
"Well then Alfred! From now on you will live at my house!" Alfred's face brightened, "really?"
"Of course! I will take care of you." the brightest smile Arthur had ever seen spread across Alfred's face. "I promise Alfred, you will be happy." Their pinkies crossed, never thinking to break that sacred vow.
