"I now place you under arrest, Light Yagami, for being responsible of these murders. You are sentenced for life."
A calm sensation known as relief washed over the insomniac as he witnessed the crazed brunette resist the handcuffs. Unfortunately, Misa was being arrested elsewhere and L could not wittness it for himself.
While on the subject of Misa, the Shinigami happened to disappear. In fact, she was gone since the day Misa was assaulted in an alleyway on her way to Light's home.
"I'm innocent! Isn't Misa the one you suspected was Kira? I didn't do anything wro-" Light's persistent screaming cause L to snap.
"We came across Ms. Amane's second phone and traced your recent call. You said it yourself that you were ready to 'Eliminate L and take control of the world.'" The dark-haired detective explained, irritation yet a sense of pride was clear as day through his voice.
Light's eyes were glued to L's. Matsuda was holding his hands behind his back, while Chief Yagami was away breaking the news to his wife and daughter. Poor girls... I should go bring them some sweets to at least temporarily brighten their moods.
The two opposites stared at one another for a moment longer, before Light was finally being dragged away.
"Misa! Ryuk! Somebody...!" Light's screaming echoed throughout the building's hallways.
"Goodbye, my one and only friend."
Along with the feeling of victory, L couldn't help but feel alone again. The feeling of pride soon disappeared and replaced by a sense of loneliness.
L shuffled over to the series of computer screens, and stared upwards at the bright screens.
The stress of being constantly near a killer was gone... on the bright side. L exhaled slowly, looking back down at his desk and picking up a cup of tea. The world deserves to hear about this.
He stretched out one pale finger and clicked a few numbers on the phone, before picking it up with his other hand and holding it next to his ear.
"Hello?"
"This is L. Set up a broadcast imediantly."
"Yes sir?" The connection was quickly cut off, and L's signature letter was displayed don his screen while he clicked another button.
"Greetings, world. Kira has been arrested."
