Author's note : Everything in this story is completely made up, but inspired by Twilight. Stephanie Meyer owns Twilight, not me. If I did James would definitely not have died!
Victoria crept along between the trees, her body low to the ground. She didn't want to be found. Her fiery red hair was the only give-away that anyone was there as is danced around her face and flew out behind her in the strong wind. She pulled her fur wrap tighter about herself and stopped, sniffing the air. He was close now, closer than he had been in weeks. She could smell him. Turning on her heel she ran deeper into the forest, still crouching low so as to remain unseen. A twig cracked behind her and Victoria whirled round and stared into the gloom. Even with her excellent eyesight she couldn't make anything out. Shaking her head she turned away again and continued into the forest, stopping every now and again to sniff the cold winter air. Her red eyes flickered from tree to tree, waiting. He was so close now he must surely be able to see her but no one came out of the trees. Victoria waited growing bored. Why didn't he just get on with it? "Come out! I know you're there!", she called into the eerie silence of the forest. Still nobody answered and nothing moved. The forest seemed completely dead. Victoria crouched, ready to spring. He was stronger and faster than she was but she was pretty sure she could get away if she saw him early enough. When still nothing happened she straightened up and called out again. "I know you're there!" It had started to snow. Cold, damp flakes were whirling about her face making it even harder to make anything out and it was growing darker by the minute. The wind was also picking up so her curls flew and danced making her easy to spot. Victoria didn't like it. She turned at lightning speed and sprinted off, leaping over a fallen tree as she shot up a hill. Turning round she scanned the landscape as best she could. He was nowhere to be seen. Smelling the air again Victoria flinched. His scent was closer than ever. He must be here somewhere.
Then she saw him. He came ambling out of the woods ahead of her, a slight grin on his hansom face. Taking a step towards her he winked. "Give up, Victoria. I've got you. There's no escaping now." In a last feeble attempt not to be caught she spun round hair and wrap flying and dashed back down the hill. His footsteps were muffled by the snow but she could still hear he was following her. Redoubling her efforts Victoria launched herself over a frozen stream and landed with a soft thump almost on all fours on the other side. Immediately she stood again and was off, dodging between gnarled trunks of snow-covered trees. Snow was now almost completely blurring her vision making it hard to see more than a few metres in front of her face. Trusting her instincts to guide her Victoria ran on trying not to look round. She could hear the footsteps behind her loudly now and his scent filled her nostrils. With a ferocious snarl the vampire threw herself forwards. But nor far enough. She felt strong arm grab her round the waist and hold her. Victoria let out a scream of disappointment and rage as she spun to face her captor, still struggling against his arms. "Give up, Victoria", whispered that familiar voice. She stopped fighting, finally admitting defeat and smiled. "You found me at last", she sighed. James smiled at her. "Yes, I found you." Then he kissed her, his lips gently brushing her. Victoria kissed him back. Snow was still falling, covering them both in soft white flakes. "I missed you, my perfect James", she breathed and wrapped her arms around his neck. "I missed you to, my wonderful Victoria", he said with a grin. Victoria kissed him again. She was glad he'd found her. However much she enjoyed their games of hide-and-seek she always missed him. It didn't feel right without her James. But she was safe now. She was home.
