Disclaimer: I do not own Gundam Wing and I am not making any profit from this story.
Author's Note: This fic centers on Relena and Heero and takes place after Preventer 5.
I have done my best to keep the story lines intact, following what happened in the show,
the manga, and the radio drama. If you have not read the manga, I suggest you do so before
reading this story as parts of them come into play. *If nothing else, at least read the
last chapter of Ground Zero* Also, please be kind, it's my first fic. And, being the mean
person I am, I will not post any more until ten people request that I do so. (It's all
done, but I'm leaving on June 12, so if you want it before July 23 you'd best hurry.) I'll
leave you alone now, enjoy!
Relena walked slowly down the beach, reveling in the silent darkness. Stopping, she
gazed out at the sea and smiled, fingering the two pieces of paper in her jacket pocket.
But then common sense reasserted itself. I suppose I should be getting back, she thought.
Turning, she headed back for her house and bed.
As she came closer, she began carefully watching the ground, wary of where she
stepped. The last thing she needed was for someone to discover her nightly outings to the
beach. They were hers, and she refused to share them with a group of worrisome guards.
She spent enough time with them during the day.
Soon, however, she began to smell smoke and worry overcame caution. She ran
towards her house, which was now belching out dark clouds. Bright flames leapt about,
combating the darkness. I wonder if everyone got out all right, she thought. I'd best go
check.
Running ever faster, she headed for the house. Before she could reach it, though,
the garage went up in flames and the store of extra fuel stored for emergencies exploded.
The sheer force of the explosion sent Relena stumbling backwards. Anxiously trying to
regain her footing, she slipped over the edge a ravine and rolled until the impact with
a tree stopped her and everything went black.

The news was heartbreaking to everyone, earth and colony citizens alike. Their
beloved vice foreign minister had died in a fire. A faulty wire in her room was determined
to be the cause of it, and the fire had spread so swiftly no one had been able to reach
her in time. There had been no other casualties.
A funeral was planned to take place in a week's time, and thousands were expected
to attend so that they might mourn the death of Relena Darlian.

Groggily, Relena sat up. She rubbed the back of her head where a large bump had
formed. Where am I? she wondered. For that matter, who am I?
"Well," she said to herself, "maybe my belongings will give me a hint."
First searching her coat pocket, she came up with two pieces of paper. Looking at
them, she realized they fit together. A simple message was written on them, "Happy
Birthday, Relena."
"Relena," she murmured. It sounded right on her tongue. "That must be my name."
The next of her pockets provided her with a net total of $41.26. She found nothing
else until she had reached the last one. From this pocket she pulled out a crumpled piece
of paper. Carefully smoothing it, she tried to read the two words written there in flowing
handwriting. The ink was faded, so Relena figured it must have been through the wash
several times. Finally, though, she realized she was looking at a name.
"Relena Yuy," she mused. "Is that my name?"

There's chapter 1. I got ideas from many stories by other authors for this. Unfortunately,
I cannot remember all of their names. I do know however, that the stories written by the
Black Rose and Kristine helped a lot. So even though you've probably never heard of me,
Thanks to them and the authors of the other stories.
