"I don't like this…" Cain muttered, not for the first time.
DG eyed him, "Maybe we should start calling you headcase."
"Relax!" Glitch said cheerfully, as if cued in by the mention of headcase. "These watervators are perfectly safe," he patted the window beside him. "A good friend of mine invented them…I think…"
The watervator soon came to a stop, surfacing at its destination. They climbed onto the platform, Cain holding out a hand to help DG up as Glitch surveyed their surroundings.
"I think…" he pointed left, but Cain caught his arm and swung him around to the right.
"And I wasn't talking about the transportation," Cain said quietly to DG as she looped her arm through his when he held it out to her.
DG looked at him amused as he covered her hand with his own.
"We'll be fine. We have an escort, and the only danger is Glitch getting lost."
Cain cast a look back at the two guards behind them, and then at the other two fanned out to either side of the group.
"If the crowd surrounds us again…"
"Tin Man, it's a marketplace…of course we are going to be surrounded…"
"That's why I don't like this…"
"Cheer up. Your birthday is tomorrow! That's why we're here after all…" she motioned to Glitch who had already found a vendor.
"That's the other thing…" he muttered. "If he wants to get me a gift, why am I here, with you two, and Raw is back at the palace?"
DG smiled. "Because it's supposed to be a surprise." She raised her eyebrows like it should be obvious.
Cain gave her a blank look until she began the punch line.
"I think what happened in his head was, he knew this had to be secret. And he knew that you can't keep anything secret from Raw. So he came up with a scheme to hide this trip from him…"
Cain blinked and nodded in understanding. "Instead of me…"
DG smiled again and nodded. "It's really quite sweet if you think about it."
Cain looked at her with a smile before shaking his head and looking towards their friend holding an armful of clothing.
"Right then…" he muttered, leading her towards Glitch. "Now kindly remind him that he already bought me twenty pairs of socks when he was sure it was my birthday just last month."
