Never Let Me Go

Leonardo was dying. He could feel it as he slipped into unconsciousness, and he felt himself slipping painlessly away.

Everything felt peaceful, including the blackness that had surrounded him. None of the pain he had been feeling before was present any longer.

The gaping wound in his chest where Shredder had run him through with the long blade protruding from his hand was no longer detectable.

Dying was so easy.

Leonardo always felt like the weight of the world was pressing hard onto his shoulders, crushing him and pushing him closer to the ground, but as he laid there dying, he felt nothing. He wanted to just let go and float peacefully into eternity. He wanted to die, didn't he?

"Never let me go."

What was that? Leonardo wondered dully as the voice echoed around his head, trying to pull him back to life. He didn't want to go.

"Never let me go."

Was it one of his brothers talking to him? The voice sounded familiar, but Leo's frazzled mind couldn't place it. His brothers needed him still, didn't they? Would giving up and letting himself die be selfish?

No, he argued with himself, I'm not giving up. I'm just giving in. Dying is inevitable, and why should I have to just keep postponing it?

"Never let me go. Never let me go. Never let me go. Never let me go."

The voice sounded desperate and close to tears, and Leo felt his spirit pulled closer to life.

It was a hard choice to make. His brothers were hurting, and their big brother wasn't there to comfort them.

He was the reason they were hurting.

What was he to do? Allow himself to die and sink peacefully into the comforting darkness around him, or was he to fight and survive, even though he would be suffering in agonizing pain as soon as he woke?

"Never let me go," the voice sounded closer as Leonardo made his decision. He concentrated on the voice calling to him and pulled himself back, all the pain slowly returning to him.

"Never let me go."

"Never let me go."

"Never let me go."

He was almost there. He was going to fight for his brothers and father. And he was going to fight for himself. The pain suddenly came full force, and Leo opened his eyes.

"Never let me go." He finally recognized the voice as he looked up into the tear-stained faces of Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. His brothers. His reason to live.

"It's okay, bro," Raph whispered, giving a relieved smile as he wiped a stray tear from his cheek, "We'll nevah let ya go." Leo blinked, a tear escaping and rolling down his own cheek.

"Never let me go," the weak voice said one last time, and he recognized the voice as his own.

*The End*

A/N: *crying* It's just so sweet and sad! TT^TT Go reread the whole thing now that you know it's Leo talking the whole time! It's so sad, because even when he thought he wanted to die, he was still begging his brothers to never let him go! Excuse me a moment... *goes to cry in corner*
