HIATUS

BECKY

Starsky sat in a straight backed chair with his feet propped up on another, arms behind his head, eyes closed.

Hutch looked up from the paper work, wincing at the commotion around him. He shook his head, marveling at his partner. How could anyone be so relaxed among the clamber of such a busy work place? Numerous phones rang at the same time. Detectives were busy trying to pry out details from witnesses. Loud-mouthed punks sat before officers being processed for arrest. The door kept opening and closing adding to the chaos. Hand-cuffed and protesting felons were led to various departments.

"Starsky"... Hutch tried getting the dark-haired mans attention but he didnt budge.

The blond went back to his paperwork, doing his best to shut out the buzz of activity around him.

A few minutes went by when suddenly, Starsky pulled his feet off the chair and shoved it under the table. He moved his own chair back toward the table and picked up the report hed abandoned fifteen minutes before.

Again, Hutch looked up to see his friend diligently organizing his notes on their current case.

"Hey buddy!" Hutch stuck out his foot and connected with the Adidas covered foot opposite him.

"Huh?" Starsky looked up, surveying the room. He lobbed a crumpled up piece of paper into a near by trash can. He scanned the folder in front of his desk mate.

"You havin trouble getting your report done? We gotta finish before Dobey starts to bellow."

"How do you do that?" The blond looked incredulously at his friend. "I mean, how the hell do you just zone out like that?"

Patiently, Starsky sighed, stuck his pencil behind his ear and leaned toward the blond.

"I was on hiatus." As if that was explanation enough, he silently went back to work.
