I based this poem on a fanfiction I read. I... don't really remember the name... BUT! I will post it as soon as I do remember! Set in the civil war period.
I sit here on this hill with you
Watching as your land falls to pieces
Your people are fighting
The Northern half and Southern half
William is leading it all,
The other side of you, under another spectrum.
He wants his independence,
To be able to use slaves freely
He refuses all your help
And ignores your attempts at peace
And now you're here,
In my lap,
Your back leaning against my chest
As your heart breaks
A hole digging its way through your skin
Why does he want to hurt you?
He knows how bad slavery is
He's only doing it to make you hurt.
It doesn't make sense.
Why should someone as strong as you be broken?
You've more bravery in your hand then I've in my whole body
You're brave enough to sit back and watch
As your body is maimed
Simply so you don't hurt anyone
I admire you, Fredka.
Your honesty,
Bravery,
Compassion for something you love.
Democracy has failed
You say, crying into my shoulder
I don't think it failed, sunflower.
One day,
William will be gone.
You'll be able to smile again
Without being torn in two
I believe in you.
Yours forever,
Vanya
