Gordon knew that he was a disappointment in the family, although they didn't say anything, he just knew. even with his father because he never seemed to want to spend time with him, he was always taking his brother Scott, Jhon, Virgil, and Alan to the space museum, talk to them about space and speed and literally anything else they had in common. Goron? His interests lay with water, no one else was interested in it though, not as much as him. They kept saying that it was just a phrase and will eventually pass, no matter how much he protested, they always said "it's just a phrase". Luckily two people in his family supported him they were his mother and grandmother, they were the only ones who listened whenever he rambled on about water and the marine life, the only ones who would take him swimming whenever he wanted to, or the aquarium, the ones who stayed behind to watch him whenever he had a swim meet, the only ones who cheered him on during competitions. At least, it was two until his mother died and then, it was only grandma, what made him most upset is that his brothers didn't seem to care, so he planted a fake smile and acted normal, played pranks and everything because he gave up after her death that it was too late for him and his father to "bond". His father and brothers always brushed his achievements off like nothing, even when he won the state finals! He was the youngest one to win in like forever! HELLO! If his grandmother couldn't drop him off for a swim meet, his father would drop him off at the entrance, then leave, when he got picked up his father didn't ask how it went or anything, instead one or all of his brothers would be excitedly talking about what they did on that day or in the future.
*Years later*
"This is Thunderbird 2 to Thunderbird 4, ready to deploy?"
"All ready, Virgil"
"F-A-B"
Gordon would never get tired of the feeling of Thunderbird 4 being dropped into the water, his father had started International rescue a few years after his Hydrofoil incident, at the moment, they were rescuing a submarine that had sunk and needed rescuing, quickly, Gordon swam in and rescued everyone and everyone was safe above the air. But no matter what he did, his family never congratulated him after rescues, all they talked about was how to modify one of their 'birds' to go faster. The only time they talked to him after a rescue was if he messed up. stretching his arms, he walked to his room and fell asleep instantly on his bed.
