Burn Out
The candle was almost out, some minutes was probably all it had. Even though Cas didn't really need it, he liked that small flame.
Cas was currently in his bedroom at the bunker, all by himself. Sam and Dean had a case involving, what they assumed to be, a werewolf and Dean refused to let Cas come with them, ("you could get hurt, Cas!"), while he was adjusting to the human life.
So now, as said, he was alone, waiting for them to call and tell him how'd it go, the only company he had was the small light on the desk he was sitting by.
Then, when his phone rang, he quickly picked up with a rushed "Dean?"
"Hey, Cas. How's it going?" Dean said.
"It's fine. Lonely but fine. How did it go?" Cas said while hovering his finger over the flame, back and forth.
"It went great, it was done quick and classy as always," The sarcasm was easy to pick up, after spending a lot of time with Sam and Dean, you learn when not to take what they say seriously.
"No need for sarcasm, Dean."
"Sorry, it's just... this is getting a bit tiresome, people dying and we not being able to save them, you know." Dean sounded very tired and Cas didn't blame him.
"When are you getting back?" Cas said, changing the subject.
"In a few hours at least. Why? You miss me that much?" Dean chuckled and Cas smiled. He did miss Dean, and Sam, a lot. It was too quiet in the bunker; all these room, with nothing but silence.
"Yes. The only company I have right now is a almost burnt out candle and that's not as good as yours and Sam's company."
A few moments of silence passed before Dean spoke up again; "Cas, I'm sorry, for not letting you come with us. I know you can handle yourself in battle but... that was when you were an angel. Now that your human, I just wouldn't be able to handle it if you got hurt cause you didn't know how to defend yourself "the human way", you know. You're new to this and it's not as easy as it used to be.
And I know your lonely right now but we're home soon and when we are, I'm going to teach you everything, Sammy and me. And... Yeah, I'm sorry."
Cas sighed and "Dean, you don't have to be sorry. I understand. I can assure you that I'm not mad or anything. I think you're right about me not being used to the human life, so I don't want you to be sorry. Okay?"
"..."
"Dean."
"Yeah. Okay."
Cas smiled. "Good."
Silence passed for another few moments.
"I love you."
"I love you too. I'll see you soon, Dean."
"Of course. Bye."
"Goodbye."
Cas hung up and put the phone on the desk beside the candle. Not many minutes now before it's gone completely.
Cas had lit it so he could put a new one in, but now that he thought about it, he'd rather be with Dean when it burns out.
So, he blew it out to save it for later. Cause not everything needs to new and pretty to be useful.
END.
