Romeo was playing a bit of poker on the Brooklyn Bridge with Race and two Brooklyn boys, Fox and Laces.
The Manhattaners were clearing out the Brooklyn boys pretty quickly.
"Ha! I win again!" Race exclaimed, collecting his winnings.
"You clearin' out my boys Racer?" Someone said, approaching them.
"You betcha Spottie. Well, me and Romeo," Race said.
Spot rolled his eyes.
"What's up?" Race asked.
Spot jerked his head to the side and Race stood.
They walked to the end of the bridge and into a small alleyway.
"So, Romeo, how'd you learn to play?" Fox asked.
"Race taught me," Romeo said.
"Mkay," Fox replied.
"So, what's it like livin' in 'Hattan?" Laces asked.
"Fun I guess. Jack's a good leader. Wes basically get ta go where eva but wes gotta be back ta da lodgin house by ten," Romeo said with a shrug.
"No way," Fox said.
"Yes way," Romeo said.
"Youse is jokin'," Laces said.
Fox jokingly punched Romeo's shoulder, throwing off his balence.
Unluckily, Romeo was sitting on the railing of the bridge. He fell backwards and into the water.
Fox and Laces laughed.
At that time, Race and Spot came back.
"Where's Romeo?" Race asked.
"He fell into da water," Fox said, his laughter settling.
"What!?" Race exclaimed.
"Calm down Race, people fall in da river everyday," Laces said.
"Romeo can't swim you dolt!" Race said as he took off his vest and shirt.
He tossed his hat, shirt, vest, and cigar to Spot before doving over the railing after Romeo.
Race swam down, the water stinging his eyes.
He saw a vauge figure and swam towards it.
He wrapped an arm around Romeo's waist and swam upwards.
Racetrack broke the surface of the water with a gasp. He swam to the Manhattan side of the bridge, dragging Romeo to the shore.
Spot, Fox, and Lace met him there.
Race checked to see if Romeo was breathing and found nothing so he started CPR.
Spot held himself back when Race pressed his mouth to Romeo's.
Race panicked until he heard a hacking cough from Romeo.
He turned him on his side and let him cough up the water.
"Glad I gave you those swimming lessons Higgens," Spot said.
Believe me, I am too," Race said, laying on the ground next to Romeo.
He stared up at the sky for a few seconds, taking deep breaths.
Spot handed him back his things.
Race only stuck the cigar in his mouth.
When Romeo finished coughing, Race forced him to take off his shirt and vest.
He made him put on his dry ones since he was shivering.
Lastly, Race helped him to his feet.
Hat in hand, Race made sure he was ready for the long trip back to the lodging house.
"See ya tomorrow," Spot said.
"You betcha," Race said.
Spot hesatated before kissing Race on the cheek.
Race smiled before helping Romeo back to the lodging house.
When they got there, Albert and Specs ran up to them.
They took Romeo to get warmed up and Race went to dry off before going to bed.
