Lost Without You
Violin music drifted softly down the halls of the high school, late after school had ended. Hatsuharu had been punished for a fight he had started and had been forced to stay late to clean up. He hadn't expected anyone to still be there that late. He was curious so he followed the music to one of the class rooms on the top floor. The door was open so he peaked around the door frame to see who was playing.
A black haired girl facing the door played a slow, sad song. He didn't recognize her uniform and he was positive he had never seen her before. Her eyes were closed and Hatsuharu saw tears running down her face. Suddenly her song ended and her eyes shot open. She looked strait at Hatsuharu and he didn't have enough time to hide.
"I'm sorry." She said, wiping the tears away quickly. "I didn't realize someone was still here."
Hatsuharu felt silly for peaking at her so he straitened himself and took a few steps into the room. A slight blush tinted his cheeks at the thought of how easily he had been spotted.
"Would you like me to play you something?" She asked, looking him over curiously.
"No, sorry, I was just leaving." Hatsuharu turned towards the door.
"Please stay." He heard her whisper.
He turned back to look at her questionably. She stared down at the floor, ashamed. Hatsuharu thought to himself and realized he wasn't ready just yet to go home and tell his family that he had gotten into another fight. I can stay for a little while. He thought. Hatsuharu pulled up a chair and sat down staring at the strange girl. She glanced up and smiled a little.
"Do you have a song in mind?" She asked softly.
Hatsuharu shook his head. "But first tell me your name."
"It's Misaku Nami." She replied, her dark green eyes stared at him as if she expected him to question her further. When he didn't she asked a question of her own. "May I ask for your name?"
"Hatsuharu Sohma." He replied.
"Are you related to Yuki Sohma?" She asked.
Oh great, she's one of them. He thought. "We're cousins." He replied reluctantly.
"Many girls from my school obsess over him." She explained.
"Do you?" The question slipped from Hatsuharu's mouth before he could even pause to think about it.
"No." She replied as she placed her bow back onto the strings. "Now tell me what song you would like to hear." Misaku smiled at him as she waited for his answer.
Hatsuharu shrugged, "Whatever you play."
She pulled the bow across the strings in a slow, beautiful rhythm. The melody she created surprised Hatsuharu and he found that he couldn't take his eyes off her. He realized that as she played she kept her eyes closed. She seemed to be in her own world until the song faded away into the last few notes and the room became silent. She opened her eyes and smiled at his stunned expression. He blushed and quickly broke eye contact, looking at the floor.
"Did you like it?" She asked.
He nodded slightly.
"It's getting kind of late." Misaku stated as she glanced over her shoulder and out the window. "Won't your family start to worry about you?"
"They don't really care; they probably think I'm at my cousin's house." He smiled kindly and looked up at her. "What about you, it's almost five o'clock, shouldn't you be heading home?"
She shook her head, "My parents don't mind, as long as I'm home before dark."
They stayed in silence for a few minutes feeling awkward and a little nervous until Misaku asked, "Would you like to hear another song?"
"Sure." He replied simply and she quickly began playing the next melody. It was fast paced and seemed to take a large amount of concentration. Hatsuharu sat and thought about how nice it was to meet someone new who didn't know his background and didn't know what he was.
The simplicity of it was amazing and for some reason it made him very happy.
