From "The Things that Stop You Dreaming" by Passenger
If you can't get what you love,
You learn to love the things you've got.
If you can't be what you want,
You learn to be the things you're not.
If you can't get what you need,
You learn to need the things that stop you dreaming.
Every day that goes by something reminds me of you. This song made me think of you. I think that you learned to need the things that stopped you dreaming. Dreaming got too hard because real life was never going to be as good as the dreams. You found the things that, for you, made real life easier. They stopped you from wanting more. Eventually you believed you weren't worth more than the hardness and the sadness.
You forgot what it was like to dream. You forgot what it was like to look for the light, even when we tried to shine it right on your face. You stopped trying to keep the lights burning and they flickered off one by one until it was too dark to see at all. That was when you fell.
Every day I miss you, we miss you. I think of things I want to say to you, things I wish that we could share. But you gave up.
I don't want to live the rest of my life without my sister, but it's something that I will learn to do.
I don't want to be the one who's left behind without you, but I'll learn how to be alone.
The one thing I won't do is stop dreaming, no matter how hard real life gets.
