Chapter 1
In the backseat of the cab, Scarlet flipped the pages of her book. She had been reading the same line over and over again, but couldn't seem to focus. She was nervous. The last few miles to the X-men mansion were bumpy, for which the cab driver apologized. 'If you don't mind me asking, why are you visiting the mansion of mister Xavier?'. Scarlet took a few seconds to answer, being lost in her thoughts. 'Oh, I am visiting my brother here', she closed the book, 'at least, I hope he is here. Can't seem to get a hold of him'. 'That must be frustrating', the man replied, 'family is very important to me too'. Scarlet didn't answer anymore. Frankly, she wasn't in the mood to hold up a conversation with a stranger.
The remaining of the trip was quiet. Scarlet saw a massive mansion forming in the landscape. She couldn't resist opening her mouth in awe. The grass fields surrounding the building had students in them, which, on closer inspection, were all mutants. Scarlet could feel a joyous feeling growing inside; the children were completely comfortable performing their powers. One child was climbing trees with his animal-like feet and plucking the fruit, throwing it down to a girl. The girl telepathically moved the fruit towards different baskets. Another kid was growing flowers in the palms of her hand and handing them to other students. Scarlet was so taken up by the view, she hadn't noticed the cab stopped in front of the entrance. 'Well, here we are', the cab driver spoke, 'have fun with you family Scarlet. Scarlet thanked him and got out. Strange, she thought to herself, the cab driver knew her name; she couldn't recall telling him.
Before being able to think any further, she was greeted by a girl with white hair. 'Hello there, can I help you?'. Scarlet turned to the girl: 'Hello, I am here for my brother, Peter. Do you happen to know where he is?'. The girl looked taken by surprise first, but then laughed. 'I'm sorry, I didn't even know Peter had a sister! How fun!' She shook my hand, 'my name is storm'. Scarlet nodded her head and smiled. 'Follow me!' Scarlet followed.
Inside there were students everywhere, doing anything besides studying. One girl was re-organizing the bookshelves by letting the books float around her and putting them back in different spots. Storm pointed at her, 'That is Jean, she is telepathic'. Before Scarlet had time to react, Storm was already going on about other students: 'that boy over there, the blue one, his name is Kurt. He can teleport. Oh, and the girl with the pretty skirt is Jubilee, she can generate energy!' Storm seemed excited about all the students. 'Kitty can move through walls, which is...', Scarlet interrupted her, 'Hold up, what are your powers? I mean, I can guess..' Storm smiled, 'Yeah, I can basically control the weather. My actual name isn't storm, just so you know'. We laughed. After seeing some more students, we walked upstairs. 'Are you a mutant?', Storm asked. 'Oh, well I have some powers, but I cannot control them'. 'What kind of powers?', Storm stopped walking and held Scarlet back, 'I can't really explain. But I do know, that I have a very strong gut feeling. I think, if it makes sense, I feel very connected to the ground around me'. Storm smiled, 'you do know, you are literally in the perfect place to figure out your powers, right?' Scarlet shook her head 'actually, I'm doing fine in college. I just want a normal life'. Storm looked disappointed, 'oh, well, that is great too!' she still cranked out a smile. 'well, the movie room is through those doors. I think you will find Peter there'. Scarlet thanked her.
