Title: Wild Horses
Summary: It's Charlotte's wedding day and House has one last thing to say. Just a little sappy songfic based in my Charlotte-verse.
Disclaimer: I'm just borrowing them to play with Charlotte. The Rolling Stones have my heart and I soooo wished I owned the song.
a/n: this story will make a little more sense once I get my other stories up and running. It's just been sitting on my computer for too long and I'm getting antsy with it. So in the mean time, enjoy.
The DJ had announced their names and House rested his cane against the table. This was the moment he had been dreading: limp dancing with his daughter while 200 guests gawked at them.
It was Chase who wanted the big wedding. House silently detested him for that. Charlotte would have been happy running away to Vegas and having the only witnesses be an overweight Elvis and a little old lady playing the organ.
But he did have to admit, Charlotte was glowing. She had better be because that dress was not cheap. He was still reeling from the credit card statement he got last month. He took his daughter's hand and with a huge smile she stood up from her seat and followed him to the dance floor. Faint guitar came over the speakers and Charlotte gave him a smirk.
"Mick Jagger always knows the right thing to say." House said with a grunt.
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
"Thank you, Daddy." Charlotte said with a soft smile. House simply nodded his head and focused on not feeling the pain in his leg. He hadn't taken as many Vicodin as he could have. He had wanted his head clear. Mind over matter. And what pain he couldn't will away, there was always the open bar… the open bar that he was paying for. Damn.
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
"I didn't know House was such a good dancer." Thirteen looked at Charlotte's mother, Sarah.
"He used to be a wonderful dancer." She laughed "And I'm sure he's so high on Vicodin right now, he's feeling no pain."
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
"Not my first choice in father/daughter dance songs." Foreman looked at Chase
"I think it works for them." Chase couldn't tear his eyes away from the dancing couple
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
"How apropos." Wilson leaned over to Cuddy and said with a smile "Charlotte picked out a good song for them."
"She didn't pick it." Cuddy said as she bounced the almost three year-old on her lap. Rachel took off the flower garland around her head and had passed it to her mother. "House did. That was all he asked. He wanted to surprise her." Rachel wriggled down off of Cuddy's lap and made her way over to Foreman sitting across the room. "I think Charlotte was half expecting a disco song or something incredibly inappropriate."
I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die
"Hey," Cameron leaned in and looked at Chase. "Are you sure you're ready to take his place?"
"I learned a long time ago that no one can take his place." Chase said, almost wistfully. "But I'm happy to be number two."
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
House pushed Charlotte away and spun her around then whipped her back in and held her close. Her look of surprise turned into a clear, melodiously ringing laugh.
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
..fin..
