The rain was coming down in buckets, and completely out of the blue. Galinda Upland, of the Upper Uplands, had been outside with ShenShen, Phannee, and Milla, gossipping about how Yca had been dumped by her boyfriend for Miremstipya, and suddenly the skies opened up. This was most unfortunate for all of them, but in particular Galinda, who was dressed in silk. (Which was the latest fashion.)
It was absolutely horrendible. Galinda could not get the image out of her mind. Silk fibers were very delicate, and the force of the water destroyed them. Galinda ran inside as fast as she could, but the damage was done.
Galinda stared out the window at the rain hitting the glass with a vengeance, and began to cry. It had been a brand new dress, too. It was a terrible tragedy indeed. She headed back to her room brokenheartedly.
Elphie glanced up from her book as she entered the room, but didn't ask why she was upset. Despite this, Galinda said, "My dress is ruined!"
Elphie rolled her eyes. Galinda flopped over on her bed.
"You know you can always buy a new dress, right?"
"You don't understand!"
Elphie sighed.

The sky was already an ominous shade of grey, when the skies opened up, but the revelers, who had been attending the carnival, had not noticed this, and thus were taken completely by surprise.
Glinda the Good Witch of the North hurried into the emerald city a bit faster than the others, finding shelter in the Emerald palace.
She probably was expected have stayed with the other partiers, she thought vaguely, as she entered the room- the suite- that she had entirely to herself.
Glinda stared out the window at the rain hitting the glass with a vengeance, and began to cry. She had already been close to the breaking point when she had gotten up this morning, and the stupid rain had pushed her over the edge. "I'm sorry." She whispered. "I'm sorry.
She didn't know how long it was before she forced herself back to her feet, in front of the make-up mirror, and, when she was ready, out the door.
The rain was coming down in buckets.
