How Could You, S?
Serena van der Woodsen entered the small hospital room that her brother, Eric was staying in. She had heard about her brother's suicide attempt and was very worried about him. What had been so horrible in his life that had made him want to kill himself. That was almost unthinkable. Eric, her sweet little brother, had attempted to end his life.
She looked at the hospital bed and saw Eric laying across it reading and book. He looked up, and saw his sister. His eyes met hers and she was shocked to see the angry look on his face and the furious glint in his eyes.
"Eric," Serena said, greeting her brother.
"Serena," Eric scowled, "Decided to come back, did you?"
Serena took a deep breath, she hadn't expected Eric to be so mad at her. "Yes. I heard what happened. Are you alright, Eric?"
"Am I alright?" Eric mocked, "What do you think, S? If I was alright I wouldn't have tried to kill myself, now would I, Serena?"
"I guess that was a stupid question," she said, trying to lighten the mood.
"Yeah. It was," Eric said briefly, "Now get out."
"What?" Serena said, shocked.
Eric glared at his sister, "You heard me. If you can't bother to come home, or even pick up the phone and call me, this might have never even happened!"
"Wait. You tried to kill yourself because of me? Why E?" Serena felt tears in her eyes.
Eric exploded, "You left me, Serena! You left here alone all by myself! Do you have any idea how that felt! One day you're just not here anymore and its just me and mom and mom's never even home. I tried to call you. Like a million times. But you never picked up and never called me back! What did I do to you Serena?"
Tears started falling down Serena's face. "I'm so sorry Eric. I didn't mean to leave you all alone."
"Then what WERE you trying to do S?" Eric demanded.
"I don't know! I was just going through something and I needed to get away. I'm so sorry!"
"You think I wasn't going through something?" Eric demanded.
"I'm so sorry, Eric! I didn't know!"
"Yeah. Cause you never bothered to find out." Eric said this simply and that made Serena cry even harder.
"I trusted you, Serena," Eric began again, "And you left me! You left and never came home! Its been a year! And not a simple phone call! What were you running away from that was so important you'd just forget me? How could you, S?"
Now tears were beginning to fall down Eric's cheeks. For so long he had been trying to forget how Serena left him and now it was coming back. He remembered and oh god it hurt. But not as much as it would hurt to loose Serena forever.
Eric reached out to his sister and pulled her into a hug and she hugged him back. Serena knew she was not forgiven yet, but that would come in time. For now she was just happy to have her brother back.
