Ruki44: Um hi. I'm Ruki44.
Ruki: I'm Ruki from Digimon Tamers. My English name is Rika.
Rukia: Rukia from Bleach
Tetra: Tetra from The Legend of Zelda series
Hinata: I'm Hinata from Naruto. Nice to meet you.
Ruki44: Alright now that I got THAT awkawrd introduction out of the way, I guess I'll tell you what this is.
Ruki: I can tell you all what it isn't: A story.
Ruki44: Thanks. I think they could tell that from you know the title and the summary. I'm pretty sure they're not morons.
Hinata: Anyways this is basically different mythologicial aspects of Sailor Moon. Each planet will have one and each "chapter" will be updated when more facts have been known about the mythology of that certain planet/moon.
Tetra: The main reason Ruki44 is doing this is because after reading most of the manga/watching some of the anime she couldn't help but notice all the mythological references and couldn't pass up the chance to show her complete and utter nerdyness to the entire world.
Rukia: But the main reason she's uploading this is so she doesn't have to study for her last final.
Ruki44: Shush you! They aren't supposed to know that I'm a slacker!
Tetra: Trust me. They'll figure that out soon enough.
Ruki44: Feh. Anyways, sorry the introduction is longer then the actual...um chapter...but for the moon at the moment this is all I have. I searched things online, such as Wikipedia and used my own nerdyness to bring this to you. Anyways if you know more myths or stuf that I have here, please write it in the review b/c God knows I do NOT check my inbox. At all. Ever. Anyways I would like it to be known I do not own Legend of Zelda, Bleach, Naruto, Digimon, or Sailor Moon. I'm just doing this because I want to. So yeah...YAY FOR LEARNING!
Mythology of the Moon
Usagi- means "bunny" in Japanese. This relates to the moon because according to East Asian folklore there is a rabbit on the moon called the "Jade Rabbit." In the Japanese culture there is a story where a fox, a monkey and a rabbit resolved to practice charity on the Buddhist Sabbath day Uposatha, believing that a demonstration of great virtue would earn them a reward. Where this notion even came into mind is completely lost on me. Anyways, there was this old man who was begging for food so the monkey gathered fruits from the trees and the fox pilfered a lizard and a pot of milk-curd. Since the rabbit only knew how to gather grass, it through its body into the fire the man had built to offer itself as food. However, the rabbit was not burnt and the man who actually was Sakra was touched by the rabbit's virtue and drew the likeness of the rabbit on the moon for all to see. There are other legends but this one seemed the most relevant to the manga/anime.
Luna- Spanish for "moon"
Serena and Endymion- Serena is a pun on Selene (the original Goddess of the moon before she was 'absorbed' by Artemis) who fell in love with a shepherd named Endymion.
Artemis- Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt. However, in later mythology she takes on the role of Selene. After Athena, Artemis is defiantly my second favorite Greek Goddess. Artemis can also be related to Venus because of the two lunar craters: Artemis Chasma and Artemis Corona are both located on Venus.
Diana- The Roman name for Artemis. The Greek Gods and the Roman Gods are the one and the same. The Romans simply took the Greek religion after they conquered the Greeks and gave the gods and goddesses different names.
