Friendship

Ten years after, Zim has been called back to Irk to help the Tallest fend off a new enemy. But before he leaves, one person comes to say goodbye. Not slash, but rather a testament to the strangeness of life... and how, with time, even a despised enemy can become someone you will miss.

"So, you're leaving?"

The voice cut across Zim's hangar like thunder splitting the skies.

"Dib! How did you get past the defenses?!"

"The same way I always have. Ten years and you still haven't found the blind spot... no wonder you never conquered Earth."

"What, have you come here to insult me one last time?"

"No... just to say goodbye."

"After all the things that happened?"

"It was... interesting, you know? Ten years of rivalry... you get to miss the party when it's over."

"Hmm... I suppose you're right. So..."

"So..."

"Perhaps we should part ways as friends, then?"

"Sounds good to me. And Zim?"

"What?"

"If you're ever in the neighborhood, make sure you stop in for some more attempts at world conquest."

"Only if you get me on Mysterious Mysteries... friend."

The two shook hands one final time.

And with that, Zim climbed into his pod. The house began to fold in on itself, until all that was left was a small module easily tucked into the craft's underbelly. With a howl of ion engines, the craft blasted into the night sky. All that remained as a testament to the Irken presence on Earth was a young man, his eyes gazing skyward.

"'Till we meet again... my friend."

Author's note: set 10YA only as an excuse for what would otherwise be serious OOCness. A rivalry over that much time would be sure to change...
