Attention

AN: This is slash. I wrote this a few weeks ago and it's just been collecting dust on my hard drive, so I figured I'd just upload it. Review if you want. Disclaimer-I own nothing. ABC and a bunch of other people do.

You're breaking. I can see it in your eyes: every word she yells, every argument she lets loose, breaks you just a little more. You stand there, hardly flinching, as you pretend that her words roll over you, but I know they don't. Her words burn you, leaving invisible scars that I can't soothe.

You're scared of her. You're scared that one of these times she'll hurt you to the point of no return. I know because that scares me too. Every time the light in your eyes flickers the slightest bit, I'm ready for intervention. I'll save you from yourself, but I can't stop your arguments.

And yet you still go to her, provoke her even. You want more than she's willing to give. You're willing to stand her scathing words, for what? A little attention. You know you can have all of the attention you want, if you'd just come to me. We both know it, and yet you continue to pursue her.

I know Locke has talked to her about this, about you. He knows I'm with you, so he assumes that you're safe enough. He trusts you to hold your own, while knowing that you actually can't. He trusts me to hold you together until you save yourself, but I don't know if I can do that. I don't trust myself to do that.

She knows you almost as well as I do. She and I both know the easiest ways to hurt you now, but only I know how to fix the mess she makes. I can see in your eyes the moment she pushes just a little too far, and then I'll intervene. I know you'll try to resent me for it, but we both know you aren't actually offended.

Maybe you just want to know I'll save you. Is that it? Do you need to know that I'll seek you? You don't need to worry about that. I want you enough to put up with her tactics. You know that I follow you. Has the hunted become the hunter? You provoke her until I give you the attention for which you won't ask. Would you do that?

But don't worry about me. I can handle this, you. I'll just put the pieces back together until you decide that seeking out my attention is better than putting yourself through this. Unless you all ready know that…

THE END.
