Okay, this is my first ever fanfic submitted online. I don't truly know exactly what violence, romance, etcetra will be included, but I warn you, there WILL be some (later, not in this particular chapter). Enjoy!

1. Lost

Tails awakened slowly, sitting up. He groaned, feeling an ache in his back. As his young blue eyes adjusted, he was surprised to find himself not in bed, but in a field of very tall plants. He didn't even have time to guess what they were before his furry head began to throb painfully, however.

"S-Sonic?" he gasped weakly, clutching at his temples. Then he remembered the chase.

Tails winced as he recalled the excitement from the day before. He had been with Sonic, hanging on the back of a truck, trying to catch up with Eggman (Sonic hadn't wanted to endanger Tails by running through the traffic), when Tails' grip had slipped and he was forced to let go.

As Tails had flown backward at an alarming speed, Sonic had turned his head, eyes wide in surprise. Tails recalled faintly hearing Sonic shout something, but the wind was blowing too loudly to hear. And then he had crashed into the field and everything went black.

Tails couldn't remember anything after that. I guess I was unconscious, he thought. I wonder where Sonic is now. Looking for me, I suppose. I sure hope he's okay.

Slowly Tails raised himself to his feet, barely able to keep his balance. "I just need to fly up and see where I am. Then I can get out of here and find Sonic," he said aloud, speaking to himself. It helped comfort him a little to hear his own voice. Determined to look out for himself, the young fox spun his dual-tails like a helicopter rotor. As was his unusual talent, Tails rose quickly off the ground in an unnatural, but amazing, flight. Soon he was high off the ground.

Not that it was much of an improvement. Sure Tails could see further, since he couldn't see three feet ahead of himself while in the fields, but all he saw was… fields. In every direction. Well, not quite, Tails noted as he turned slowly in midair. To the east, there was a lush forest not too far off. Not that it helped him with knowing his whereabouts any more than "eternity fields" did. Low on energy because of his headache, Tails floated reluctantly back to the ground below.

Wearily the kitsune wandered the fields for some time, not paying any attention to his sense of direction in his worried state. Eventually he'd have to arrive somewhere. Maybe I could make some sort of signal, Tails brainstormed. If Sonic is looking for me, the beacon would alert him to where I am. Tails paused eagerly for a second, then shook his head. He didn't have any means of starting a fire; not flint, no twigs, nothing. "I'd probably light the entire field on fire anyway," he muttered.
Eventually, cold and tired, Tails laid down on the soft warm summer ground, flattening the crops to make a temporary "bed" for the night. I might as well sleep, he thought, So I can have energy for tomorrow to get out of this mess. With those thoughts, the young fox drifted off into subconscious sleep.

There not TOO bad:) I hope you liked it. Please, please review so I know if anything should be changed:)
