Disclaimer: I don't own twilight.
Bella coughed, yet again. It seemed like she'd been asleep for hours, though it had only been half an hour. She rolled over again, trying to get comfortable. I put my hand on her head – she was sweating. "Alice" I called quietly. She showed at my door, her face worried.
"Yes?"
"Get Carlisle's bag for me?"
"Sure," and with that, she darted off to his office.
Bella whimpered and squirmed.. I felt so horrible that she had to go through this horrid virus.
Alice returned promptly, Carlisle's bag in her hand. "Can you get the thermometer for me? She nodded once and found the long glass thermometer.
I sighed in frustration. "She feels like she's burning up.. but she's always warm. It's hard to tell.. Bella, honey.. open your mouth, please.. I need to take your temperature.." she parted her lips slightly, still half asleep. I slid the thermometer under her tongue and watched the mercury slide up the glass stick. When it stopped I waited a few moments and then pulled it out of her mouth.
"One hundred and two. That's very abnormal.." I murmured to myself, and Alice. Alice's eyebrows wove together. "Maybe we should take her downstairs… it might be cooler?"
I nodded and scooped her up in my arms while Alice grabbed her pillow and blanket, not that she'd likely use the blanket.
Bella coughed again and she opened her eyes slightly. She looked like an angel still, hair stuck to her head from the sweat, face flushed.
"Edward… my throat hurts" she whimpered. I put my lips to her ear and whispered reassurances, that it'd be okay and that she'd feel better soon.
I walked down the stairs carefully, I didn't want to wake her up, as she'd fallen back asleep. As we reached the living room, I placed her carefully on the couch, her pillow and blanket already there. I turned off the light and ran into the kitchen to fetch some cough medicine and the cordless phone. I dialed the hospital's number.
"I need to speak to Dr. Cullen, please. Tell him it's urgent."
"One moment, please."
That annoying "hold" music came on.
"Doctor Carlisle Cullen speaking?" Carlisle's voice sounded.
"Carlisle.. it's Bella.. she has a temperature of one-hundred and two and she's been coughing non-stop.. what should I do??" I asked, panicked.
"Calm down, Edward. Just give her some cold medicine and let her sleep." He said calmly.
"Thank you, Carlisle."
"No problem. See you when I get home."
I hung up and opened the medicine bottle and poured the suggested amount into the plastic top. Bella took the medicine easily, and slipped back into unconsciousness.
After a while, she slept deeply and without coughing.
"You really need to be more mellow, dude." Emmett said from the corner, with an amused expression on his face.
Ah, Emmett.
