A/N: Hello, everyone! I have been extremely busy over the past two months and have had little to no time to write. Of course, updates will be coming in the summer when I have more free time... Thank you for your patience!

The first thing Toshiyuki noticed when he awoke was a numbness coursing throughout his entire body. As he slowly opened his eyes, the teenager found himself lying face-down on a dirt path with his body contorted in an awkward position-his left arm was lodged underneath his body, and his right leg was somehow bent under itself. To be frank, it was a very painful setup. He wasn't sure how he had ended up here, but he very much wished he had fallen in a more comfortable position.

When he tried to turn himself over to free his arm, he was almost immediately halted by an intense pain coming from his wrist. He winced. This was clearly going to be difficult. Gritting his teeth, he summoned whatever strength remained in his muscles and rolled his body to the right. Nearly crying out in agony, he laid there for a few seconds, breathing heavily and staring up into the heavens. Judging by the sky, he guessed it was about five or six o'clock in the evening. How long had he been here? He suspected it had been a while, but at this point, he wasn't really sure of anything. And Arceus, his back was killing him...

Wait a second. Arceus? Since when had that been an expletive of choice? Terribly confused with this mysterious turn of events and wanting answers, Toshiyuki had no other choice but to get up. Bracing himself once again, he gingerly shifted his weight back to his side and pushed himself up onto all fours. He then got on his knees and sat there for a while before standing. Upon moving, his back let loose with a sickening array of cracks that made him want to throw up. He suddenly felt incredibly dizzy and leaned on the nearest tree for support. Looking around only made it worse, so he decided to look at the ground instead. But what he saw then really threw him for a loop.

His feet had become claws of sorts. On each one, two large toes projected outward while one more protruded from the heel. His legs and arms were toned and slightly muscular. Save for a red front, his body was entirely green. Several leaves seemed to be growing from his forearms, and two leaf-like tails moved gently with the breeze. A grass-like mane swept down from the top of his head in a single blade. After several seconds, his tired brain suddenly put all the pieces together.

He had become a Grovyle.

Nearly falling from shock, he stood there and stared at his new self, shaking uncontrollably. So now he knew. He was a Pokémon. There obviously wasn't anything he could do about it now, so his first order of business was to look around. The adrenaline pumping through his body had, at least for the moment, relieved his pains. And thus, still dazed and not quite believing, the shaken Grovyle began his survey...
