"I found the Sleeper!" Skye yelled, and kicked the door open, her gun facing forward. "Put your hands in the… Ward?" she lowered her gun.
Ward spun around to face Skye. He had a distressed look on his face. "Skye,"
"Ward, what are you doing here?" Skye asked.
"I'm sorry, Skye." He said.
"There must be some kind of mistake. You're not Hydra." Skye shook her head.
"You have to listen to me, Skye. Leave. Get out of here. Now." Ward said.
"What are you taking about?" Skye asked, her voice shaking. "Come on, we have to go! Scratch that, Coulson. I didn't find the Sleeper." She said into the coms.
"No. You found him." Ward looked down.
"Grant…" she bit her lip. "This isn't happening."
"I'm sorry."
"You're… Hydra?" she breathed out.
Reluctantly, he nodded.
Tears started to form in her eyes as she bit her lip. "No, no, no…" Skye raised her gun up to level with Ward's head. "After all we've been through," she glared at him. "I can't believe you."
"Usually, in this situation, one would say, 'I can explain'. But I can't." Ward said.
Skye took a deep breath. "This is an ICER," she said quietly. "So it's just going to knock you out. And then… afterwards, I'll probably never see you again." She blinked, but didn't let the tears escape her eyes.
"Go ahead. But first, I need to tell you something." He said.
"You have two minutes." She swallowed.
"When I first saw you, those big brown innocent eyes, I was never the same. I knew that you would be a distraction, something that would compromise me. Every little interaction we had, every minute we spent together, felt like heaven and hell at the same time."
Skye finally let the river of tears stream down her face.
"When I became your SO, when we trained, when we played board games… I never wanted it to end. But I had to accept that it would, someday, and that day is today. I needed to tell you, Skye, that… I am in love with you. I don't think I'll ever stop loving you. I know you'll never forgive me, or… or have that drink with me. But, I just needed to let you know. I'm sorry." He stared at her with a hurt face.
"Grant…" Skye put her gun down as she walked over to him. She grabbed his tactical vest, and kissed him, one last time. Before she began to hate him, before she would never see him again. "I want to love you too, Ward." She slowly stepped back. "But I can't."
"Skye…" he looked like his whole world had been taken from him.
"Goodbye, Grant." Skye raised her gun, her face streaked with tears, and shot him with the ICER.
