When the Hogwarts founders four
Decided to be friends,
They set aside their quarrels to
Achieve a greater end.
To educate young sorcerers,
To help them learn their skills,
To keep them each from danger's way,
And teach them all their fill.
Though the four had this same goal,
And they were good friends true,
Each one had different values,
By which I now sort you.
Brave Gryffindor wanted those
With bold, courageous hearts.
True Hufflepuff only chose
The kind, hard-working sorts.
Wise Ravenclaw valued most
Those with sharpest minds.
Shrewd Slytherin was a host
To sly, ambitious kinds.
So slip me on about your ears,
I'll have a look inside.
I'll get to know you and determine
Where you should reside.
You may worry, but don't fret.
I've been here all along,
And in all the years I've sorted,
I've never once been wrong.
