Note: This is a sorta follow up fic to Keeper. Warning, character death
Blaze of glory
Sunstreaker dragged himself across the ground, his left leg mangled beyond repair. He had to get there, he had to. Painfully hoisting himself over the crest of a hill, he slid down the other side, ignoring the shrapnel and rocks that gouged into his armour. Sideswipe lay nearby in a crater of his own making, having plummeted from the skies when Hi-Octane shook him off during their airborne wrestling match.
"Sides? Can ya hear me?" Sunstreaker croaked, surprised by the weakness in his voice. Rampage had done more damage than he'd realised.
Sideswipe cracked open his optics "Told ja Jet Judo needs more work." He muttered, coughing out a wad of half processed energon.
"Nah bro, I told you." The heavily damaged mech corrected with a gentle smile as he reached out and took his twin's hand, blackened gold interlaced with blistered ebony.
Together, they struggled to their feet, each leaning on the other for the strength that they needed. Fluids were streaming from both Sunstreaker's leg and Sideswipe's back, but they ignored it as they stood and gazed across the broken land.
"So, this is how it ends." Sideswipe finally said as he fingered the trigger of his gun. He knew the wounds were fatal, but he refused to take it lying down.
"Just as we figured." Sunstreaker finished. He knew his energon levels were reaching critical, but he didn't care. "It's been a heck of a ride bro."
"But I'm glad I took it with ya."Sideswipe flashed a wicked grin. "Shall we?" he invited, sweeping his free arm towards the battlefield
"Of course." Sunstreaker's face creased in an identical smile of malicious, mischevious, devilish joy and deep, unspoken love.
Two battle cries joined in discordant harmony as the mechs leapt into the thick of the fray, injuries forgotten in the intensity of combat as they ducked and parried, lunged, kicked and fired, the terrors of the arena once again as they fought and killed and lived.
Between one strike and the next, their spark chambers burst, and finally freed, the sparks whirled away in giddy joy, escaping to the place of peace where together they finally found rest.
That was how the searchers found them, death darkened ruby and gold lying side by side, optics dull but faces frozen in perfect expressions of not pain, but pure and selfless bliss.
