Chapter One: Freaks
"Get away from me you freak!"
I looked up from my book to see Kristen picking on my sister,Lorlia.
Lorlia didn't say anything to her as she came over to me and sat down.
"These people are getting on my nerves," she muttered to me.
"Ignore them," I muttered back, looking back to my book.
She my book away from me.
"Hey, give that back," I said, grabing for the book.
"No. Your not listening to me," She said.
"I am," I said reaching for it again. She sat on my book.
"No you're not," she said, "Look at me,"
I sighed and looked up at Lorlia. Her hazel eyes were filled with different
,envey,wonder,impatience,and anger. I didn't understand any of
her emotions. She looked at me, I looked back at her.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
She opened her mouth to answer, but was interupted.
"Oh, hey! Look, it's freak and freakier,"
I looked up to see the whole orphanage, not including the adults,
standing in front of me and course it was Kristen in the front
of them. I heard Lorlia curse beside me. I sighed and got up.
"Whatcha reading freakier?" Kristen said, jumping forward and
grabing my book. She flipped it over and read the title. "Harry Potter
and the Prizaner of Ascaban?"
"It's a good book," I muttered.
"Yeah it is. For geeks," she sneered.
She threwthe book at me. My hand flew up and snatched it out of
the air. I turned and headed towards the room I share with Lorlia.
"See? Freakeir is a coward after all," Kristen sneered to the rest
of the orphanage. I froze in mid-step. I slowly turned back to Kristen.
"You're in trouble now," I heard Lorlia mutter.
"What's this little twerp gonna do?" she looked behind her at the
people behind her. They laughed nervously.
When she turned back, I walked up to her and punched her. She
stumbled backwards, clutching her gushing nose.
"How dare you!" she hissed through the blood that was pouring
down her face.
"Don't you dare call me a coward!" I hissed back at her.
Kristen rushed forward and punched me in the side of the head. I
stumbled back, more surprised then hurt. For some reason, I snickered
at her.
"Is that the best you got?" I asked plantinga roundhouse kick into her
cheast. She flew back a few feet and landed on her back. She was about
to get up when Anne and Angie, the orphanage runners, walked in. Then she
just layed down again and looked hurt.
"What's going on here?" Angie cried, rushing up to Kristen and kneeled
beside her with Anne following.
"She attacked me," Kristen said, pointing to me.
"Alex?" she asked turning to me. "Why?"
When Angie turned to me, Kristen smirked at me. I almost jumped at her again.
If it wasn't for Lorlia placing her hand on my arm, I would have, Angie or not.
"Because she called me a coward and no one calls me a coward," I said, simply.
"So? That does not mean you have to beat her up," Angie turned back to
Kristen. "Come on, up you get. Anne can you take Kristen to the infermiry?"
Anne nodded and took Kristen out the door. Anne walked slowly over to me
and said, "You will go to you room without supper tonight. And you are grounded
for a month," she started to walk away but stoped and turned back to me. "Oh and the
trip to Flordia, forget it. Your not going,"
With that, she walked away. I turned and ran upstairs to my room. I ran inside and
slammed the door.
