I love the TV show Spooks or MI5 as it's called in America and after watching a certain character be decommissioned it made me think of what does an ex-spy do after he's left Thames House. That's why I wanted to write this, I'm not sure how many chapters it will be just yet as I already have another one going and decided to write this one too.

What does an ex-spy do when they leave The Grid? Well this one goes and finds that girl he left behind for his job.

-.-

He wasn't sure what he should really do, he's not even sure that he should be standing outside of her door but he needed to speak to someone. A part of his world had fallen apart and he's not sure just who else he could tell but he could tell her. Especially when it was the reason he had to leave her.

Charles brought his hand up in a fist to knock on the door and wondered if he was doing the right thing by coming back in to her life. He could be the real him sure but at the same time he would be coming back into her life when he's not even sure she wants that. He done everything in his power to keep an eye on her but he could never see her with his own eyes, he could never hold her.

"I love you" he had told her before their ultimate break up. "I could leave my job and we could be together"

"But would you be happy though?" she had asked.

"With you I would be happy anywhere" he had whispered to her that night just before she had gone to sleep.

Charles hesitated for a moment and then moved his hand away from the door without even knocking on it mostly because he knew that he had done the exact opposite of what he had said he would do. He said that he would leave his job and be with her but he had left her for his job.

He remembered the look on her beautiful face when he had told her that they had to end, he remembered the anger surging through his veins when he was told by his boss that he had to end it and now that he was free he decided this is the place that he wanted to be.

Charles took a deep breath and raised his hand before knocking on the door. He saw movement on the otherside of the door and watched as the person came closer and closer to the door. He wondered just what he would find, wondered if she wanted to see him again mostly because of the fact that he broke her heart.

The door opened and he looked at the woman on the otherside of the door and he felt his throat get tight for a moment before he spoke "Hi Molly"

Molly Dawes was used to people knocking on her front door, whether it be the take-out man who usually brought her Chinese, the jehovah's witnesses that really liked to find her when she was in the middle of something noisy so that she couldn't hide away from them, the men that liked to bring her Amazon packages or the little bleeders that liked to play knock knock ginger on her damn door. She thought that it was payback for the fact that she used to do it to the old couples that used to live around the estate that she grew up on.

But this time she found it was a face that she hadn't expected to ever see again.

She poked her head out the door to see if there was a waiting car out there for him or even for her. "No car?" she asked once she realised that there was no one waiting there for him.

"No, uh, not tonight" he chewed on his lip for a moment before he finally said in a voice that broke at the last minute "They decommissioned me"

Molly watched him for a moment before she cleared her throat and pulled her hoodie closed a bit and then crossed her arms over her chest. "So you're not a Spook anymore then" she nodded. "Why did you come here, Charles?" she asked and watched him. "You could've left it alone and I wouldn't have really known any different"

Charles watched her and nodded before he scoffed. "I don't know what I'm doing here, especially when I know that I should've left you alone but I had to see you, I had to tell you just what happened"

There was silence between the two of them and for a moment neither of them talked but then Charles looked at her. "I'm sorry for disturbing your night but I just had to see you" he muttered and then gave her a slight smile. He cleared his throat before he started to walk away from the door and was almost at the gate.

Molly watched him and knew that there were two ways that this was going to end, she would either regret letting him go or regret letting him in and rather the former she would just go with the latter especially when he had come here to see her. "I have half a pizza left if you want some food" she called out to him and then moved away from the door a bit to let him in, it was up to Charles whether or not he would actually come in.

Charles had just about to open the gate to leave Molly alone when she spoke and he looked back towards her. The thought of walking away was probably better but when had he ever done what was good for him? He then turned away from the gate and up the path once more before walking into the house, Molly shut the door behind him.

It was warm here, cosy and it made him have flashbacks of when they had been together, of course he had gone under a different name then and when he had tried to tell her about himself then things got complicated.

He removed his coat while Molly walked in to the kitchen.

Charles looked at the new pictures of Molly and her friends and of her family and wondered just how many he could've been in if he had turned away from his job. In the end he felt lost anyway.

He heard Molly walking around in the kitchen and walked in there too, sitting down at the table. Molly put a drink down in front of him. "Thanks" he said and smiled slightly once more before he put his cold hands around the mug. Molly put the plate down on the table too and then grabbed herself a cup of tea before sitting down at the table with him.

"What happened? Why did they decom-"

"Decommission me?" he asked and Molly nodded "Because I lost it on an Op" he admitted and watched her. "I started this op by destroying this man's life and I don't know everything got the better of me and I tried to take him away from that but the big boss actually decided that it was in the best interest that the man stays where he was"

"Are you sure you should be telling me this?" Molly asked.

Charles shook his head "No, I shouldn't but it will be the only way I know you will get so now I am a free man" he muttered.

He started to eat his pizza and there was no more talk for a little bit, Molly started to clear up and once he had finished the food he washed his own plate up.

They were sitting in the living room and they started talking again.

"I saw you on the news, they said that you were wanted and they even came to my door to see if I knew where you were" Molly was sitting in the chair while Charles was on the sofa.

"I know, I'm sorry about that" he admitted and watched her before he started to play with his fingers. "I got in to a bit of bother but in the end I got myselkf out of it and I'm sorry that they came here" he nodded.

"What are you going to do now?" Molly wasn't sure what he could really do especially after he had been a Spook for so long and now he was literally without a job.

He was quiet for a moment and then cleared his throat. "I don't know what I'm going to do" and that frightened him a little because he didn't have any Plan B when it came to life after MI5, he wasn't even sure that there was a life after being a Spook but whatever it was he's sure he would find it.

Molly watched him and she could see the tears welling up in his eyes and that was all that she needed to get up from her seat and go over to him, he wrapped his arms around her waist and laid his head against her stomach. She ran her hands through his dark curls and just held on to him for a while. He needed that, he needed some stability right now and she was going to hold on to him for as long as she could even though he had broke her heart.

That didn't matter right now, this man was broken and she wanted to hold on to him for a while just to tell him that she was here. That she would hold on to him for as long as he wanted her too. She leaned down gently and put her lips to his hair and kissed it before she straightened up once more.

They stayed like that for a while and when he finally pulled away she told him that he could stay the night but sadly it would have to be on the sofa and he didn't mind that.

Molly brought out some pillows and even a blanket for him and they sat and talked for a little bit longer before she decided to go to bed and he would sleep on the sofa. It probably wasn't the best idea right now but it was the only way he could really stay the night.

Charles turning up at her place really wasn't how she thought this night would go but in the end it just made everything seem so unpredictable and sometimes she liked that and other times it threw her through a loop and it would leave her wondering just what the hell she had done for something like that to happen but the world was quiet right now and her ex boyfriend was sleeping on her sofa.

Molly had to admit that this was going to be really interesting.
