Summary: They find hidden refuge in each other. He assures her, but she doesn't know what to believe...Can't this embrace last forever?
Inspired: A Melody, the Memory by Mae, from their new album (m)orning.
Is that your song I hear playing?
'Cause I'm feeling it too.
Does it take all direction, all control over you?

The last note of a song echoes through the room. She slowly lifts her skilled fingers from the ivory keys. A strong hand slides over her shoulder.
"It was beautiful, Yin."
Blind eyes glance up at him. She lifts the sides of her lips into the shape of a smile. He returns the smile and takes her hand, helping her up from the piano bench. Moonlight filtered through the pale curtains.
"Is it pretty, Hei?" She asked curiously, slipping her hand from his and making her way to the window.
"Very." He replied, following her and gazing out at the night sky. "It's a full moon, and the stars shine like fireflies..." Oh, how she longed to see that world that was just out of her reach. She stretched her arms out longingly. Then, her angelic, distant voice echoed through the empty room. Hei watched as her lips moved in an unknown language. A Scandinavian lullaby, perhaps? Her lids slowy closed over lilac eyes.
When you sing do you slip away?
Back to that place in your mind?
Let our love be the one thing you wont leave behind...
She let her mind take her to another place. A place with no sadness, no sorrow, no fighting nor pain. She wondered what it would have been like if they had met each other earlier. When he was never whisked into the world of Contractors and the Syndicate, and when she was still living happily with her mother and father.
His arms wrapped around her torso and she was pulled from her Wonderland, like Alice from her dream. She opened her eyes and her voice faded. Yin held his large hands in her small ones, leaning backwards on him. Hei's chin rested delicately on her shoulder. Midnight's hour was passing, the clouds drifting lazily in the sky. He wished he could do more than simply explain how this world looked...words couldn't describe it. It was always changing; the rushing traffic confusing, the peaceful hours never lasting. He tighened his grip on her, as if to keep her there forever, to never let her go.
"I'll never leave you." He murmured in her ear.
"Promise?" Her monotone voice asked.
"Promise."
How I long just to hold you,
And see you let go as we dance.
I know you're reminiscing through our romance.
Can you hear the piano?
And the pulse of the drums?
Does the tune and the groove bring you back to our love?
Oh, come and find it Honey...
Things in this world are only temporary. He knew someday all this would end, and so did she. But it was so much a part of their lives, they were just so used to it. Yin's eyes slowly closed, beckoning her to sleep. But she didn't want to forget this moment...this promise. She wanted to reply with emotion, with feeling...
Hei's attention was drawn to her as she slumped in his embrace. Asleep. He smiled. The serene, innocent look on her face would never reveal her inner turmoil. He slid to the floor, Yin still in grasp, comforting hands around hers. So they both just sat there, soaking in that atoning moonlight.
Couldn't these times last?
Rewind and play,
Time to go backwards again.
I'm moved by the way
All the notes in time make the melody,
Night into day.
Can we move onward from here?
Where we can stay on and on attached to the memory...
