"I want State."

That was the straw that broke the camel's back. This arrogant, greedy bastard had the nerve to ask for State out of all things. The man didn't care about the people. He just wanted the power. And Conrad was content to let the chips fall where they may. Content to sacrifice all the progress they've made, the legacy's they're leaving. And damn if that didn't frustrate him, even if he wasn't surprised.

Conrad and Bess had always been strict on their morals. Conrad more so. Elizabeth seemed more lenient on hers, more prepared to sacrifice them for the good of the country. The President however, was exactly what Russell had told him to be. A knight. And the result of that could be the destruction of everything they worked for.

Conrad didn't know the half of what they did. Plausible deniability and all that. The President was able to sleep soundly at night knowing the he and Bess would do whatever it took to win. And the President just wanted to sit back and watch it crash down, like it didn't matter.

Russell wasn't having it. Under no circumstances would he act like he was okay with whatever happened. Like he was okay with showing Bess that her sacrifice in Iran was practically worthless. That what she had done for this country didn't matter. And under no circumstances would he be content to let everything he had worked for to be flushed away.

He and Bess had worked their asses off to pull off the election. He didn't think that either one of them had gotten a good nights rest since they started campaigning. After the actual election they both still had to try and win over voters from the House. And by some miracle, they had won there. But they didn't get a breather then. After they had won they still had to deal the Governor. He just wanted this whole ordeal over; the inauguration was tomorrow, they didn't have time for this.

If the President didn't want to deal with this, fine. He would.

Sam Evans better run. He wasn't someone you wanted to make an enemy of. Especially when you messed with friends, or his work. Then?

He'd have no mercy.
