Chapter 1
She awoke and stretched her back cracked as she did an indication she had spent the night in the couch though why she didn't know. She groaned before she rolled over and spotted the man on her floor and the memories of the night before flooded her brain. The mixer, the bar, him and then the sex - good sex if she could recall.
Grabbing the afghan that was covering his butt she pulled it around her body and nudged him with her foot before trying to find her clothes.
"Oh my god," she groaned.
"You ok?" he asked.
"Do I should ok this is so humiliating," she answered. "You need to go."
"Or we could carrying on from last night," he answered.
"I need to shower and no you cannot join me I'm late for my first day of work. So I really need to get a move on," she answered.
"So, uh, you actually live here?" he asked, as he pulled on his shirt.
"Kind of," she replied.
"Oh. It's nice - a little dusty, odd. But it's nice. Huh. So how do you kind of live here?
" It was my mother's house. I just moved in. I'm selling it," explained Meredith.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he said.
"For what?" she asked.
"You said 'was'," he said.
"She's in a home with Alzheimer's my mother I mean. You know what? I'm really late and we don't have to do that," she explained.
"Do what? We can do anything you want," he smirked.
"I mean exchange the details, pretend we care and that. Look it really is my first day of work and I really am late. So I'm going to go take a shower once again you cannot join me and when I get back down here, you won't be here. So ... um ... goodbye ... uh ...," she said..
"Derek," said Derek, as he held out his hand.
"Derek! Right, Meredith," said Meredith, as she shook his hand. "Bye," she added.
"Goodbye Meredith," said Derek, while he watched her run up the stairs the afghan slipping slightly of her shoulders.
"Why did I just tell him details?" thought Meredith. "Oh well," she shrugged "It's not like I'm ever going to see him again."
When she came down twenty minutes later he was indeed go but a to go coffee cup sat on her hallway cupboard. She grabbed it and rushed out the door. Just making it to work in time to hear the end of chief of surgery's speech.
She was soon deep into her first forty eight hours of being a intern, with a patient when the worst thing - at that moment - could possibly happen.
"Katie's parents have questions, do you answer them or do I find Doctor Burke?" asked Meredith.
"Katie belongs to the new attending Dr Shepherd. He's over there," said Dr Bailey, as she pointed.
Bailey walked off and Meredith turned. She looked and saw him.
"Crap," she whispered.
