Secretive Past

Marceline's POV

I wake up suddenly from a nightmare. I roll over and attempt to return to sleep. When I give up on sleep, I go downstairs to my kitchen. I get a bowl of strawberries, and I drink the red from each one. Returning to bed, I hope my no longer empty stomach will help me sleep. A few minutes later, I'm sleeping.

Again I wake up from a nightmare. I keep adjusting my position, and try to find sleep again.

His voice echoes in my mind, "I will never forget you."

I sometimes have nightmares about him. Recently, it has been getting worse and the dreams come more often.

I crawl out of my bed, and go outside. The fresh night air has a cool chill. I look out of my cave, towards The Ice Kingdom.

I say, "Simon, will you ever come back?"

I return inside and put on a pair of jeans, a tee shirt and I grab my umbrella. I leave my long black hair down. I leave my cave and head to The Candy Kingdom. I sneak into Princess Bubblegum's window, and go to the one corner the light doesn't reach. Bonnie lies peacefully in her bed, softly sleeping. This reminds me of when we were good friends. As the sun reaches her face, she wakes. Bonnie sees me in the corner.

She yells, "Marceline! This is three mornings in a row. What are you doing here?"

I usually leave by now, but I say, "I couldn't sleep."

She yells, "That's no reason to-"

I say, "Princess, can you please stop yelling?"

She looks at me shocked, and then says, "You never call me Princess."

I don't say any thing, so Bonnie says, "Why can't you sleep?"

I say, "I keep dreaming of Simon."

Bonnie says, "Why do you-"

A sharp pain comes to the side of my head. I hear Bonnie gasp, before everything goes black.

I wake up in Princess Bubblegum's bed. The blinds are closed so I don't get burned. Bonnie stands near the bed talking, more like yelling, at Peppermint Butler. As soon as Bonnie's rant is done, Peppermint Butler leaves the room.

Bonnie turns to me and says, "Oh good, you're awake. The guards heard me yelling and attacked you. I called Dr. Princess to make sure you alright."

I say, "How long have I been out?"

"About a day," She says, "Dr. Princess said it was due to your exhaustion, not the guards."

I say, "I feel much better than I did when I showed up here."

"Before you blacked out, I was going to ask why you come here." Bonnie says.

I say, "I miss everything… I miss you."

Bonnie looks taken aback. She says, "I thought you hated me."

"No, I never did. I just didn't know how to react to you kissing me. Can we start over?"

Bonnie nods. Peppermint Butler comes in and says, "Mr. Finn and Mr. Jake are here to see Marceline."

Bonnie says, "Let them in."
