Sollux sighed heavily, pushing his chair away from his desk. He'd been coding for hours and his eyes needed a break from the glaring computer screen.

The troll stood up and stretched, then padded out his room in search of his matesprite. Surprisingly, he hadn't come in Sollux's room at all today. In all honestly the yellowblood was a little worried, John at least came in to check on him once or twice a day.

"John?" Sollux poked his head in the living room. It was empty.

Sollux's ears twitched as he picked up the sound of humming from the kitchen. Of course! He mentally kicked himself. He should've known, John got caught up in his baking again.

Grinning to himself, he snuck behind John and wrapped his arms around his waist.

"Thup?"

"AH!" John jumped slightly, "Sollux! Oh my god! How many times do I gotta tell you, don't sneak up on me like that!" Despite himself, the human smiled. This was painfully cliché and he loved it.

"Thorry babe. Whatcha making?" Sollux planted a small kiss on John's ear.

"Hehe! Sol, that tickles. And I was making cookies before you came in here and started to-" John turned around and pulled Sollux down to kiss him sweetly.

"-interrupt me."

Sollux chirped happily, pulling away and swiping at the cookie dough on the counter with his finger.

"Hey! No! You can't eat raw cookie dough!" John protested, but made no move to stop him. "It has raw eggs in it!"

"I've eaten worthh, jn. It'th all good!" Sollux smirked and licked his fingers clean. John tsk'ed at him and went back to stirring.

"What wath that 'thong you were humming earlier? I've never heard it before." The troll hopped up and sat his skinny ass down on the counter next to John.

"Oh! Just something my dad used to sing to me. It's something a lot of human parents sang to their kids when they were small and actually is about a terrible plague but everyone ignored that!"

"Hmm. It got wordth?"

"Huh? Yeah. You want me to sing it to you? Oh geez, I haven't sang in a long time, I might be rusty!"

John cleared his throat and started to mold the cookie dough into cookies. He could sing while he worked.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,"

Sollux twisted up a nose at that. Then he remembered that humans liked their sun.

"You make me happy when skies are gray!"

John's voice was smooth and steady. He sounded amazing, and Sollux added it to the list of things he loved about John.

"You'll never know dear, how much I love you,"

John smiled tenderly and looked up at his boyfriend, eyes shining with something he couldn't place at the moment.

"Please don't take my sunshine away."

The human looked away and started giggling nervously. "I uhm, don't know the rest. I know the song is longer. Maybe Rose knows the rest? I could ask her later. Uh, yeah. Hehe!"

Sollux leaned over and kissed John's cheek.

"You're tho cute. I'm tho tho glad you're mine."

"Awh, babe!" John blushed. "Me too. Now, are you gonna help me with these or not?"

"Hell yeah!"
