It had all been a vicious lie. A lie that she had tried so hard to convince herself was the absolute unbridled truth. Kuchiki Rukia sat in her bedroom pondering what she had just done. She too was broken. He had brought with him the sun and all the warmth that had come with it. She had hoped that the letter, would have brought some peace back into his life, some hope and at last everything would be okay. But not for her, it would never be okay and it most certainly would never be the same. She had begun to spiral downward falling faster and faster into the pitch black abyss as the emotions began to pile up like large blocks on her soul. The memories burned forever on her heart, but these memories, had now become the very reason she was falling apart.
The emptiness had slowly encased her. She could feel her life squeezed from her veins as her world collapsed around her when the thought of life without Ichigo began to set in. She thought of those perfect moments they had shared together, and the rivers they had crossed together. Those moments that taught her the things that she had locked away in the deep recesses her being. How to live again, how to smile again. These things they felt so foreign to her, but oh they felt so right and it had all been worth it just to spend those few precious hours with him, it was those moments in which she had felt as though she danced among the stars. It was then the painful hand of harsh reality had returned and she was yanked back to the present.
The fires of passion that once burned within her had been extinguished, and the darkness and silence that remained was absolutely deafening, the waves of this darkness had pulled her under and she had no way to escape. It had been exactly as it was that night. The rain began to pour down with such ferocity in her heart and it would not stop as the rain began to pour against the window. Her heart beat excruciatingly painful as she felt the remains of it shatter within the walls of her chest. In this very moment, to her life felt completely worthless and nothing else truly mattered anymore when the one person that that had held her up was no longer there. Without him time had become completely meaningless, without him, her very existence had become completely worthless.
She desperately tried to claw for solid ground, but it was a useless feat as she was dragged helplessly back under, tumbling endlessly in the vast current of her sorrow. It carried her to and fro like a helpless rag doll and she could not fight it as she sunk deeper into what seemed to be this endless abyss of nothingness where all sense of space and matter had completely vanished around her, and all that was left was her. The blackness turned to grey momentarily as she recalled that one thing she wanted to say to him most of all. She let those four perfect words spill forth from her lips knowing they would go nowhere, knowing more than anything else these words would go forever unanswered.
"I love you, Ichigo."
"I love you, too, Rukia." replied a masculine voice from the doorway. "I've come to take you back."
The rain had stopped instantaneously as she felt the pad of his thumb stroking her cheek gently. Just maybe it would be okay after all, for they both knew that after the rain, everything just glowed.
